Every time I see a G-Shock deal temptation kicks in...

Some photos of the watch here

You have a point but its not that bad.
What would you prefer a great strap on a naff watch or a great watch on a half decent strap...
#6
Thanks. Ordered. Hot. :3
#7
Yeah ordered this yesterday, though the strap doesnt look that nice. I'll have to see it and make up my mind.

How do you return to amazon?
#8
Nice watch; heat added. Going to stick with the one I've got though.

Really, really easily. Cross that bridge if and when you come to it.

I have a G-shock. It is one that is solar powred and sets time itself every night. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it

Ordered at £41.80 before xmas. Thought it might be a bit chunky and wasn't sure about leather strap, but it's a great watch, and for £31.80. Hot!

I spotted this off the back of your deal, I know there are lots of people that like G-shock so thought it only fair to let them have a choice :D

i have had mine for 4 or 5 years now, it has seen some action and the only thing showing wear is the strap, obviously a leather strap is not going to last for ever if you go swimming with the watch on all the time, however it only looks a little worn. you can buy the plastic straps but when i looked at them they were half the price of the watch.
great price, i paid around 40 quid i think for mine, i prefer it to the great big chunky monkey ones which cover half your fore arm. heat

Sooooooooooooooo tempting but a leather strap! meh.

Still fancy a military spec G-Shock...GPS and allsorts on them!

I'm going to come out in defence of the strap. For a start it is plastic that is supposed to look like leather, not leather. The assumption is you are going to be active wearing this watch, and maybe get it wet - what use would a leather strap be? It would stink and it would rot in no time.

The ones with the rubberised plastic straps may be some peoples cup of tea but I've had one before, being springy they never take the shape of your wrist and I find that uncomfortable. And metal straps, obviously very durable, but a metal strap adds to the cost and what is more, I like the idea of being able to wear the watch on a looser hole if I have got a got sweaty and/or wet.

So when I was looking through the G-Shock range, the strap was one of the reasons I chose this one, and I haven't regretted it for a second. Mine cost £60 so I'm not best pleased to see them at half that, but the watch itself I think is excellent so I'm very glad I got it.

Thanks for the info. Would you say its a pretty strong and durable strap?

Also where is the best place to get a battery replaced in one of these without loosing the waterproofness? (yes its a word I just made up :p )

Define strong and durable? I wouldn't suggest many people are going to be fooled that it is leather but I would say it closely resembles a leather strap, and my guess is that it will last as long as a leather strap. I've only had mine three months so it is hard to say. But if it gets dirty I can run it under the tap, and it doesn't smell of sweat, and it doesn't collect dirt between metal links, so it suits me.

Do it yourself - I have an 11 year old G-Shock - the battery went AFTER 10 YEARS - undid the case, battery £1.50 off fleabay, popped back in, screwed back on and huess what - tada, still waterproof.

I like the look of this watch..... and although its out of stock from Amazon, you can pre order for when its back in stock. The code wont work for market sellers.
Ordered, even though i have about 7 watches..... gotta stop buying them.

Hot.

I thought you loose the waterproof qualitys of a watch if you dont get a battery done somewhere that can re-seal it properly?

Im still swimming in mine and its not broken at all - my watch is 11 years old (g-shock blue) so I didnt have any warranty to worry about. Its suprisingly simple - I would do it on a watch like this especially after 3 years. Battery replacement would cost more than the watch!

I've changed watch batteries myself and the watch has stayed waterproof. The backs either just prise off with a knife, or they unscrew, or they have 4 tiny philips screws holding the back on.

Its described as leather on amazon description.

Maybe its coated leather so it doesn't soak up water.

Specification here says material; in answer to a question it says 'leather effect'.

Three possibilities:
1. The strap has changed at some point, or
2. I have inadvertantly mistaken my leather strap for plastic, or
3. Brum has inadvertantly mistaken his plastic strap for leather.

Answers on a postcard. If it is (2) I am probably the first person in the world to have opted for plastic and been cheated by being supplied leather :D

Amazon also says it is water resistant to 100m. On the face of the watch it says 200m. If they are wrong about that maybe they are wrong about the strap too. People who are 200m under water mean to be seriously wet. I'm just not sure why, if you were one of those people, you'd want a leather strap.

So confused now. Listed again as leather here and here and here.
When the strap bends does it wrinkle like leather?

just ordered yesterday. waiting for it! so excited!

Got it today, really dont like it. Its smaller than I thought but very chunky as others say. I comes out about a CM, its way to high.

Not attractive at all, definitely not for work in a shirt/trouser environment. Gona return.

thats what g-shock watches are, chunky, unless you go for either the womans baby g or a metal watch which will still e chunky but not as much as a plastic one.

they are chunky for substance rather than style. they are designed to take a beating and if they were slim and light then the chances of taking a beating and surviving are a lot less.

the leather strap is leather in the middle of the strap on 2 strips and the covering is a leather feel platic tough coating so it still flexes like leather and moves like leather but doesnt wrinkle when wet.
i needed one for work but didnt want one which took up my entire fore arm so for me this watch was perfect.

if you work in an office or wear a long sleeved short and jacket, this wont be of use to you as it wont fit over the cuffs
