G-Shock is a brand of watches manufactured by Casio, known for its resistance to shocks (e.g. hard knocks and strong vibrations). They were, and continue to be, designed primarily for sports, military, and outdoor adventure oriented activity; for example, practically all G-Shocks have some kind of stopwatch feature, countdown timer, light and water resistance. Recent models have become more luxury and design oriented.

G shock pretty much are THE standard for rugged durable watches. Ive got a Rolex Daytona and im seriously looking at buying a G Shock as a watch to wear on alternate days (or a Bell & Ross)

The black ones look like something an 11 year old would wear.

I'm now firmly of the opinion that a digital watch that isn't radio controlled is a total waste of time (ha ha, geddit?!), especially since Casio Wave Ceptors can be had for 20-30 quid at Amazon, Argos etc. Not only doesn't this particular G-Shock have radio controlled capability, it looks like a right mish-mash being one of those combi watches that does neither analogue nor digital very legibly. As for the entire G-Shock range, it may be "rugged", but it's doggone fugly beyond belief (and Mr. Hairy Arms' example is typical of the butt ugliness that G-Shock presents).

+1 for the fugly-ness. Is it me or are they all about twice the size the should be. They make them shock resistant by putting a normal sized watch inside another massive fugly watch.

That's Buzz Lightyears watch isn't it?

ive got an omega constellation for best, but wear my casio wave ceptor tough for day to day, its comfy, good to look at, accurate to the second and hard wearing.
#18
This is mine. Very retro but with all the mod-cons. Solar and atomic radion controlled. Great for catching trains as the time always matches the station clock :)

I hade a G-Shock (wave ceptor I think) and the battery was screwed on it (solar power, but wouldn't hold charge) abd the strap fell off. I wasn't impressed.
#20
Had my a g-shock 5 years now and it's as good as the day I bought it, can't recommend highly enough.. Billy bargain if u ask me..
#21
Anyone know what the RRP is on this? I can see it's been voted hot, but wondered how it compared to full retail.
#22
My G-shock strap broke after two years, of normal use, and was not worn every day either- not impressed. Casios resin straps are p*nts
#23
Mines almost identical to this and I paid about £80 if that helps!
#24
I've had this watch for 3 years now and apart from slight chafing on the strap it's as good as new. Great price for a tough watch.

BTW the pic looks blue but it is black

So, are you pleased with this watch? And, can you tell me if the countdown timer is a 'normal' one? What I mean is, can I set it for 11 minutes, start it, and when it beeps my pasta is cooked :)

Also, any idea what model number this is? Would like to get some reviews (Amazon/Argos etc.)

Well, you can get Ceptors for £28, however, they are not G-Shocks. Also, they do not have dual displays (analogue and digital). That's why this is a good deal. Some people, myself included, like both a traditional analogue display, and also a digital readout for timekeeping, running, cooking etc. This also has 5 alarms and a countdown timer.

Seems a great deal.

Indeed, resin straps are not that good. I always buy digital Casios as they're cheap enough to replace after 12-18months when the strap has invariably cracked (or the holder loop has split) - I have about 3 casio "watch faces" which are still working fine, but getting a new strap on them costs about the same as getting a new watch anyway...

I had to replace the strap on my Protrek (see above) about 18 months ago (after 8 years of daily use), cost £15.00 for a new one from casio. I have since seen the same strap on Amazon for under a tenner.

Thanks for that. The reviews look positive, and it is exactly what I have been looking for to replace my unreliable Timex. Ordered!

Was going to buy this but the thing that puts me off is the navy blue strap. In a couple of years the strap will bust and having searched on the internet I can't find any replacements for the blue - you can get black but not blue....A replacement black strap or a blue that doesn't match would just look daft...

Anyone found anywhere that do replacement navy blue straps?

Don't think you'll regret it. I had earlier ordered a similar one (Casio do hundreds very similar) from Amazon, but sent it back. Got this baby for half the price :)
