Castrol Magnatec Oil Half Price £12.00 b&q

Was in my local B&Q Liveprool and they had shelves and shelves of the stuff in 4L bottles for £12.00 down from £24.99

It's £11.99 for a 2L bottle in ASDA so think this is a pretty good deal

Hope its nationwide and not local

Funny why they now make 4lt cans when most cars take more than that,Probably just a con so we have to buy 2 when the old 5lt cans would do most cars.
#2
Ta, will have to try B and Q oxford tomorrow, anyone tried there?
#3
It takes several hundred years to go off though!

National tyres do an oil and filter change using this oil for £25.20 ( up to 6 litres of oil).

That includes the oil filter and sitting and waiting for 30 mins whilst someone else does the dirty messy job.
Its not worth buying the oil and doing it yourself even with the oil discounted to this price.

Will this work in a 1998 S Reg Golf Auto?

What would I need in that?
#6
buy two if you need 5 litres
#7
The oil companies instead of increasing prices tried to fool customers by reducing the size of the container.
#8
I wonder if this a nationwide deal..

What is peoples past experiences with B&Q deals like this?

Not worth spending that sort of money for use in older cars cheaper oil would do.

Which B&Q in Liverpool please ?
#11
This is a great price, I need 8 litres of the stuff for mine so a decent saving to be made

Why spend money like that on a car like you have old cheap diesel oil would do you.

Maybe because it's a perfectly good car, that works and will continue to do so with decent oil. I did try cheap oil in my 1995 car, it did not run as smoothly compared to better oil.

Old cars are good, especially when they only weigh 800kg

Very cunning replacing the 5Ltr cans with the 4Ltr ones. Although I'm not that stupid I'll just mix it up with some water to make up the difference. Take that Castrol!
#14
75% new cars under 2L engine they only take 4l oil
#15
I don't recall B&Q doing anything to do with cars anymore as it did not proove good enough.

Bearing in mind i should know, I do work for them.

This oil's claim to fame is it says it sticks to the engine and offers protection at start up.

Very thin layers of oil offer protection, and I have yet to dismantle an engine, even one that has not been run for a couple of months and found there to be no oiliness on relevant surfaces.

The best and cheapest way to change your own oil is to buy a 20/25/30 litre drum from a factors or the correct grade and codes - and do the changes yourself. But do them at every 5000 miles, as this reduces wear/contamination. A 20 litre drum in Costco is about £22.

I have bough a 5 litre drum similar to this - but only as 5 litres is the exact capacity of my car. So to fill the container to the 5 litre mark and then empty the lot in to the car at an oil change, means the oil is at the perfect level without having to keep adding a little then checking.

This is good oil at a very good price... Before using this oil my Civic would smell of burning oil when in VTEC. I was going try some eneos oil as Iv'e heard that really good too but at this price I might have to try it next year! (Hope its nationwide!)

Castrol website tells you what oil you should be using for car/model:

Think I'll just book it with national tyres as oil and filter change for £25 aint bad.

What if you just need to top up between services? Id rather buy £12 of oil and keep it for topping up for 2 - 3 years than pay out £20 - £25 every 3 or 4 months for a complete oil and filter change :whistling:

Was Diesel oil on offer as well?
#23

its the one in aintree i went to

That's the biggest load of old rubbish I have ever heard! Please enlighten us as to what brand and which store you would procure this "cheaper oil"?

This is NOT hot from me as I went to B&Q in kidderminster yesterday and it was full price. I even asked for a price check and its not reduced at all. COLD as appears to be not nationwide so useless for the majority. :x

Every 2-3 years??? What??? If you have a decent car you should be changing oil every 5000-7500 miles as the oil filter clogs up and then it no longer filters the oil. Oil is good for ages, it's theh filter that needs replacing often.

Buy two, use 5 ltrs and then you have 3 left for topping up umtil the next change. :)

I don't recall seeing 5ltr cans and I wonder if the 4 ltr harks back to the days of the old gallon can which equates to 4.54 ltrs so they just rounded it down rather than up.

Calm down, how was the OP supposed to know that??? A simple "not nationwide" would surely have sufficed?? ;-)

I've always been a sort of analyst with my engine sounds and the way it runs. I can honestly say that now I only use a good oil and tesco 99 momentum fuel, if I do not, my engine sounds unhealthy and is not smooth. I now get a lot more miles per fill and engine is very quiet and smooth. 12 reg corsa d 1.2. Castro magnatec 5w 30. Honestly if u are wondering just try it urself for a month and then see how well ur car runs. :)
