They have a bit of a cheek with this offer. Their normal price is £4 for 400g, so they've put the price up by 50p and reduced the amount in the packet by 50g. by my reckoning that works out only slightly better than half their normal prices. Still a good deal though because it's extra mature. Anything less tastes like soap to me.

not that great a deal - only marginally cheaper than their usual 400g @ £3.99 BOGOF

This whole buy one get two free thing is a sham.

350g? Where did that size appear from?

Agree, some of these 'deals' are shams!
#5
This is ridiculous, who will want over 1 kg of cheese at any one time
I'll stick to the normal size bogof
#6
This is approx 16.5% better than the bogoff deal!

The Extra Mature has always come in that size hasn't it? The one I've got in the fridge that I purchased from Asda is that size anyway, and I'm sure it was that size the last few times I purchased it. The deal won't be a sham for me, I love this stuff on jacket spuds and pasta bakes. It's not as if the entire kg of cheese will have to be eaten in one weekend.

But only if you need this quantity of cheese surely! How is spending more money on extra food that will likely not get used - considered to be a hot deal?

good price for the xmature
Have some heat
#10
I suppose it depends on the size of you family, heat added as it is a better deal
each to their own

Why would it not get used? The expiration dates on these are far in advance, probably about two months. A kilo of cheddar in a household over two months is not insane.

Fully agree. I'd get through a kilo myself in two months.

+1
I only live by myself (:() but, after a nice pasta bake, a jacket spud and perhaps a nice baguette, 350g of cheese wouldn't even last me a week, so I'd certainly be able to get through three packs before they start transforming into an extra mature lifeform. But maybe that's just because I'm an unhealthy cheese freak.

A year ago these were 500g packs then 400g now down to 350g

I don't know exactly which product is in this offer, but the ones I bought from Asda yesterday were EXTRA MATURE YET MELLOW and were in 350g packs. The standard EXTRA MATURE were still in 400g packs. I'm quite sure the 'Yet Mellow' variety have always been in the 350g packs. I expect these are the ones that are going to be in next week's Tesco offer? Or is it just that the shelfs had the 'old' and the 'new' style packs side by side? I'm sure the 400g ones didn't say 'yet mellow' on them?! I'm confused, too much cheese

No you're all right - i'm sure if you're eating this quantity of cheese that's great for you, but you know what would be a deal? Not charging that ridiculous price for one block of cheese in the first place.

lol swissrebel too right

I thought 370g was the standard size for Extra Mature packs in tesco, so they're dropping even further whilst upping the price!? I'm not sure its ever been £4.50 a pack, regardless of the weight, and i buy far too much cheese to miss something like that! :p
You can also bet it won't be £4.50 a pack after it ends!!

Just a little off the topic

In the latest Asda Mag they have a coupon for £1 off 400g Lake District Mature Cheddar Cheese. This can be used in any supermarket.
From memory Morrisons have this on Bogof quite frequently at around the £4 mark The coupon is dated until 30th November.
I would suggest picking up a couple of mags from Asda. Then purchasing two from Morrisions when on offer. Hopefuly within the next month.

I calculate 2x 400g for £8 (Bogof = £4 for two) less 2x £1 off coupons = £2 ish for 800g

Sainsburys have the Lake District Cheddar on 2 for £4 at the moment. Bought some yesterday. Wish I'd seen your post first though.

Its a hot deal to get 16.5% more cheese for your money. 1kg in the BOGOF off would cost you £5, 1kilo in the BOGTF offer costs you £4.29. A saving of £0.71 per kilo. I personally like the cheese will buy lots of this and if it gets close to expiration date i'll grate and freeze it.Simplz.
#22
you can freeze cheese if it worries you to buy 1kg of it.

just grate it, put it in freezer bags and away you go.

it is cheaper than the normal bogof so is hot.

Love this cheese, and its lasts for absoloutely ages before going off!
#26
Has anyone else noticed that the Extra Mature doesn't taste as strong since they swapped to the red packets? (no, I'm not saying the colour makes a diff, lol) but its funny that they now have a vintage version as well which tastes the same as the old black packet EM!
#27
Ordered for delivery today... offer not showing though, got a feeling i'll be sending lots of cheese back!!
#28
Ignore last post!! Cheese arrived and only got charged for one block ! thankyou !!
#29
The deal is still not showing online though !!
#30
this deal is not on in tesco in edinburgh and online
#31
You can freeze it, plus the cheese expires end of january, so you have 3 months to eat it.
