Good deal, but £4.50...? these are always £1.99 in my Tesco. You are still saving a little overll, but i just dont like the way they ramp up the prices before they go on offer. :(

£1.99? You must have a great Tesco, the smaller 200g packs are just over £2 in mine. Asda have it for £3, so that makes this a good saving, you're getting another 2 packs for an extra £1.50 with this deal.

The Cathedral City Mature Cheddar (400g) is currently £2.35 in Tesco, that's also a decent offer (don't know if it ends today to be replaced by this deal?). I almost picked up the double pack of it (2 x 350g) for £5 in Asda, but glad I didn't as either of the Tesco offers will do me when I'm shopping later this week.

I have some serious issues when it comes to cheese - I always weigh the offers which drives my wife nuts (it's like going shopping with the Rain Man).

Generally with usual offers (241) a good price is 50p per 100g. This is in total just over 1KG of cheese for just over £4 - bargain! Anyway, I'm off to count some matches.

Only on BOGOF, these are pretty much always priced at around £3.99 so a little mark up but not massively!

Just don't tell her that her kisses are wet ;)

I always check the deli counter at supermarkets for offers, at different times they usually have a few cheddars of varying strengths on offer for under £5.00 a KG and can be much nicer than the plasticy taste and rubbery feel I find with mass produced cheeses like Cathedral City and the like ( a cheese is meant to crumble when you break a piece off by hand not bend in half before breaking off with no crumbs imho ).

COLD, fed up with Tesco playing games which make stupid people think they've got a stonking bargain. Does anybody seriously believe Cathedral City is normally £12.85 a kilo??

It's £4.50 at Tesco, Sainsbury's & Ocado so it's not Tesco putting up the price!!

£4.50 does seem a silly price, even if the other stores are the same.
£3 in asda and its not on offer. £3 is the standard price for most 350-450 packs of cheddar and cathedral city isnt exactly one of the best.
£4.50 is good for 3 packs thou.

Thats 3 stores tha constantly run these bogof derivitives. You are falling for their marketing.

This is what pis$es some of us off

They normally sell them as 400g packs

The when they have the buy 1 - get 2 free deals, 350g appears out of nowhere!

Just hate scamming Tesco!

Right now it's only the mature & mild cheddar in the 400g packs, the extra mature and lighter are 350g, in Asda & Sainsburys too, so it's not just scamming Tesco. Cathedral City do it themselves with the double pack they have, it's two packs of 350g instead of the 400g packs you buy individually.

That's a good point and really what all of these things add up to, i.e. so many different prices, different pack sizes etc - marketing. Seems to be the same with everything, try and confuse us with so many variations of the same product so we no longer know what's a good price!

Just always look at the price per kg to know if you are getting a good deal. This is roughly £4.50/kg so is a good price. As a comparison, I *think* the usual BOGOF at £3.99 or the £2 for a 400g pack that are the normal offers are £5/kg?

Don't know why Tesco don't just double the price of everything in store then mark it all up as BOGOF and have done.

Once upon a time, I knew how much things really cost.

Last year I tried to not shop at any of the major supermarkets. Lasted about 8 months. fed up of the stupid deals all the time and the messing about with prices but was seduced back in the end

having said all that this isn't a bad deal. Just hate all the fake stuff. Prices up, prices down, we're really kind to our customers, "every little helps" nonsense!!!

Heat added for the deal, but am anti-Tesco.

Does anyone find the light Cathedral City much more bitter than the full fat version? I found it difficult to eat

They're not gone yet. Most of them are empty and some are being prepared for demolition, but there's still people in a few of the blocks! It'll take a while for them to be gone, the demolition is "due for completion by 2016/17".

love the way these companies keep slimming down the product weights, putting the price up and then doing a deal for a week hoping we wont notice when it goes back to full price.
