I believe they source these online orders from individual CEX stores around the country.

So unless one particular store has enough of these cheap DVDs in stock then they will just cancel your order because sending one or two cheap DVDs would cost them more in postage then they are selling them for.

My last 5 orders for cheap DVDs were canceled saying they could not source them. More likely it isn't cost effective to post a 10p/50p/75p DVD :whistling:

if youre only ordering few that might be true and you cant blame them for that.

but i used to order 30 at once, and they would mostly get sent.

some of the dvds here have been cheaper, i got Welcome To Mooseport for 25p a while back.

my fave deal ever from CEX was a movie triple for £1 - Ghostbusters, Stripes Special Edition and Groundhog Day. cant get much better value than that!

This isnt true. I work in the ecom department for a CEX store and the reason you will get a cancellation email is down to stock levels. If we only have one copy of the dvd and 3 people order, it goes to the first person and the other 2 get cancelled due to no stock. Its nothing to do with the postal prices. I do think its stupid sending out a 10p DVD because we sell at a loss, the people at head office dont seem to care. I had an order for about 50 music CD's with the total value of those CD's coming to about £8.. yet the weight of the box when filled and the money they paid me to find those 50 cd's must have totalled at least £15.. I guess they can afford a loss on some items due to the profit they make on others.

So is the stock listed online for DVDs real time or not?

The orders that were cancelled were when only 1 DVD was in stock for available online, and when I ordered it the stock dropped to 0.

Since no one else could order a copy why would it get canceled due to stock levels if I purchased the 1 copy available and no other person is able to order a copy?

The way the CEX order system works is like this:

Customer orders a DVD. If that dvd is in stock in one shop, the order goes to that shop, they say "its here!", they receive payment, process the order and ship it out.

If the customer orders a DVD that is in stock in 2 shops, the system sends the order to one shop and awaits confirmation that the dvd is found and ready to be sent out. If the 1st shop says "I cant find it" which can be down to lots of reasons, the orders gets passed onto the next shop. If they find it, they send it out.

This is where it can get to be a problem. If a customer orders 3 games and they are all in stock in 3 different shops, the order gets split down into 3 orders and sent to each shop. I'm not sure how it works with paypal but if you pay with credit/debit card, you dont get charged until all 3 shops have said "I've found it" or "I've found 2 out of 3". If the first 2 shops find the game, they put it with your order slip and wait for payment to be sent to them so they can process it. The problem is with the 3rd shop. If they are short staffed and dont have anyone to look for the orders then we wont receive payment for the first 2 games until the 3rd shop says whether they have it or not. In the meantime, the 2 games still stay on stock as we havent processed the order yet because we have to wait for the 3rd shops response. This is probably the reason you havent been getting any 1-stock orders. It stays on the system until we receive payment at our end so we can process the sale.

The other problem is that the stock comes from shops and as most people who go into CEX are probably aware, shops can get a bit messy. Some stores are always nice and tidy however that isnt the case for everyone. Our store is quite big and we've been short staffed recently so we cant keep the shop running at 100%.. we then have idiot customers who pick up a box.. walk halfway down the shop, change their mind and dump it wherever they are.. that is another problem as to why your order might get cancelled. We dont send out stock if the box is missing or if there are any serious flaws (crack in the disc, badly scratched etc). That last part is only partly true. I personally wont send out any discs with cracks or faults however some other stores dont care and will send you anything

My apologies if I havent explained it well, i've just woke up and i'm trying my best :P

Hi,

Thanks for the explanation

Now I understand the process I can see why orders might get cancelled.

Having looked in more detail to several orders paid with Paypal I made, they send a partial refund for ones they cant send. Although I am now noticing that a couple of orders with several dvds where 2 or 3 haven't been sent, ive not been partially refunded for the missing items that were out of stock.
It is saying the order is complete online, it would help if they could highlight the ones that were not sent as the amount of emails they send for 1 order (8 dvds in one order, equals about 30 emails in total!) so a lot of searching to see whats going on.
