You takes your choice and that but people on here spending £50-£60 on an electric chainsaw from Aldi/Lidl or Screwfix just to take that nuisance tree/bush down one time only are not going to spend £75 quid on the recommended kit. Not saying it's right but ...

^^ totally agree.

Chainsaws should not be available to the general public IMO.

In saying that I have one, purchased from a local tools supplier, seller gave me a demonstration and I got the distinct impression that he would have refused the sale had I shown myself to be incompetent.
This should be the absolute minimum requirement from sellers, lidl aldi Tesco wherever aren't interested in customers' safety and shirk on there duty of care responsibility to customers
I've got a pretty powerful Jonsered chainsaw that cuts through hardwood sleepers under its own weight, however i would never operate it without the safety gear and have never lent it to any of my mates unless they demonstrate to me they have the safety gear and competence to use it.
Probably the most dangerous saw is one thats blunt and has a loose chain where you see people trying to 'force it' - accident waiting to happen
Speaking as someone who, would have lost a leg had it not been for a pair of protective trousers. I'd say 75 quid is worth every penny. It takes less than a second for the saw to snatch, bounce and burry itself in your thigh.
