I was looking for a reasonable quality, but not overly expensive, document shredder and found this (I didn't want a low quality shredder that would be a hastle to use). Just bought one and it feels very sturdy. In my opinion it would be suitable for a small office as well as for home use. Its normal price is £39.99, so for £19.99 I think its a good deal.

It can take up to 10 sheets of A4 unfolded, and also shreds credit cards and CDs/DVDs (no more trying to scratch out your old backup discs with a screwdriver!). The collection bin is a decent size, so you won't need to empty it every few sheets!

20 litre waste bin.
Accepts staples, credit cards and CDs/DVDs.
Suitable for home and office use.
216mm throat width.
Reverse.
Auto stop/start.
Safety cut-out when the head is removed.
DIN level 3.
Instructions included.
Size 35 x 23 x 36cm.

Easy to take back when it brakes!

i bought a shredder from argos last week and the cost to insure it was only a couple of pounds, this warranties it for up to three years, which may well be worth doing on this.

Its a nice sturdy unit, so will hopefully last a while.

And thanks for posting the pic.

How many sheets can this do?

Might be an idea to include the pic into the OP?

I bought one of these a while back. Does a great job.
However, it has a mesh basket and the shredding dust goes everywhere. I did the yearly clearout and found that my whole office was covered in dust by the end. God knows how much of it I breathed in !!!

Got one of these about a month or 2 ago from Sainsburys for £14.99. Not sure if they still sell them but it might be worth checking before you buy from Argos.
Good machine though.

Ideal as my old one just died.

Thanks.

What was that about dust flying everywhere????????
#20
Not had any complaints with this unit so far; only just bought one a only a couple of weeks ago (ironically, from Argos, and I think perhaps for the higher price, too), and it definately seems to do the job.

Wouldn't personally say that there were any problem with shredding dust; certainly nothing that seemed like it were going everywhere, anyway.

For this price, it's very much recommended!

Ours has a mesh basket and the dust does fly, but for general use its not too big a problem. When we first bought it and I cleared out a load of old files it was pretty bad but on average daily use its fine.

I might look at putting a liner of some sort in the basket if I get this problem. This would make it easier to empty too.

Oh, one other thing to add - if you have a Nectar card don't forget that you can use your points at Argos (just hand over your Nectar card for them to swipe). Unfortunately you can't collect points at Argos though (goodness only knows why).

anyone know what DIN level 3 means

DIN Security Levels
Paper shredders fall into five levels of security level 1 (lowest) to level 5 (highest). For normal home use then a lower level of security is acceptable. In an office environment where information such as personnel and wage documents are being disposed, then a higher level (cross cut shredder model) would be suitable.

I bought the same model in Sainsburys two weeks ago on a display pallet off the shop floor advertised as half price at £14.99 but went through the checkout at £12.99...nice bit of kit..shreds CDs and DVDs credit cards etc. Went back for another one for my mum and stock was gone :( Worth a look in your local Sainsburys though. Cuts the pieces into likle bits, and yes...use a carrier bag to line the mesh basket!

The Fellowes P40 also available at the same price in Argos is of much better quality - and also half the price charged elsewhere... I've posted this before.
#27
The Fellowes one is only strip cut, takes less sheets, doesn't do CDs and has a smaller bin. From personal experience I know that a strip cut machine fills up faster than a cross cut as the strips take up more space. I've had the Challenge one for about 6 months now and it's been fine. I do recommend getting the 3 year warranty though, it's only a fiver extra and you can then get a replacement if it does goes pop!
#28
Got mine from Sainsburys too for £14.99 - it works well, but stick a plastic bag in the basket, so the dust doesn't go everywhere!

I looked at this one too, but felt that the Challenge was much better value for money - as [email protected] said, its better featured and has a higher DIN rating, and the quality is very good. The P40 doesn't appear to be better in any way I can see. Still, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Voted Cold as you can get a better one at B & Q for 10.99

Got 1 with the extra 3yrs warranty. Seems solid and works fine. From the level of shredding of the junk mail I get, the shredders don't last long hence the extended cover

Please can you post link so that people can do their own comparison. Thanks.

I have this shredder and it is very good but noisey. Chops CD's, Creditcards and goes through paper with staples no problem.

DIN level 3 refers I think to how secure it is for chopping your documents up so they are unreadable, I can confirm this unit makes confetti which is pretty secure a good for a small business or home use.

I presume you mean this http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9380940&fh_view_size=6&fh_start_index=0&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_search=shredder&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1209215280944&isSearch=true one. That only does 5 sheets and is very likely much poorer durability.

Also good as environmentally friendly kitty litter!
