I picked up a couple of bottles of Champagne Offenbach champagne today in Sainsburys Leamington after I overheard a shop assistant telling someone about a great bargain.

The shelf did not actually have a price but at a second store (in Birmingham) the shelf ticket said £37.99 reduced to £19 but also went through the till at £2.00!!! see receipt picture.

About 9 months ago, I saw that certain wines in Sainsburys Bracknell were priced at a ridiculously low price. I'm talking around £1.50 - £1.75 a bottle for stuff that would normally cost five to six quid a bottle.

I asked the nice Sainsburys lady why the wine was priced so low and she said the Bracknell town centre store was small and only had limited shelf space. They needed to make space for new wines they had to sell and the easiest way to get rid of slow moving stock was to price it to sell quickly.

Being a bit of a wino, I bought about 150 bottles, filling the car with as much as it would carry! I am slowly getting through it. A few bottles have 'turned' a bit but I just use this for cooking.

I am saying this just to alert people to this sort of thing happens periodically at Sainsburys and if you happen upon it, just pounce & fill your boots. The wine is perfectly ok & you won't regret it!

I just heard the shop assistant mention the phrase "great bargain, £2.00" and pick up two bottles of the champagne and give them to a female shopper. I said "Two pounds!!I" and a 'manager type' said yes was nearly £40, we are limiting them to two per customer".

I bought two as well in that store and more in Birmingham.

Heat added for a cracking deal and for being so restrained (i think i might have bought more than 2)
#11
Got to laugh at the security tags....6 pints of milk is more expensive and they haven't got them!!!!
#12
Good for you, hope I can pick up a few tomorrow, I certainly would have been back in for an extra couple. :prop:

Even if there was only two bottles for 1p, it is still a hot deal

If someone bought the second bottle, then the deal would be expired :p

Cold voting should never happen since it is a great price

A hot deal is for the price, not for how many can find it

This is part of a broader clearout Sainsburys are having on alcohol at the moment - as stated, it's a relatively regular occurance. I got some Taste the Difference Bucks Fizz for £2/bottle in one store (marked as £3.37 in another store) and half bottles of Lanson champagne for £6.50 in another store.

I know this is a Champagne link but if you are after cheap but quaffable plonk, then look out for wine box offers at Aldi & Lidl. Aldi had a 2.25 litre box of french red which worked out at £2.00 a bottle & Lidl had a 3.0 litre box of South African pinotage box that worked out at £2.50 a bottle. I like my vino and this stuff is fine. You can't get this now but I'm sure this will come back at some stage.
