Just about to ask the same question. I have heard of 'dahl' (lentils I think), but not sure of dal.

Apparently "chole" is basically chickpeas, also called chana.

Channa Dhahl = Chick Peas. Its definetely not rice. Can be very tasty espicially the way my missus cooks it. You can eat it with chapati, or by itself as a snack menu.:w00t:
#23
Great find! But either this is dal or channa
#24
It's Chapati and I'll cry if I want to.

:-D

Boil about 250g of Split Lentils (Chana Dal, if you will) in 700 ml of water for half and hour, should look a bit like thick lentil soup.

In another pan, fry together some mustard seeds, ginger, chillies (heat added), turmeric, cumin and fennel seeds (vary amounts each time - makes life interesting) for a couple of mins then add to the soup. Also add 200g Spinach and a few chopped spring onions to the mixture, heat it through, then eat it with rice, chapattis, naan whatever, it's all good.

I make this quite a lot, and it is always awesome, filling and really cheap - particularly if you can pick up cheap Chana Dal (heat added)

even cheaper at asda at 1.86 each
#27
Try this recipe, quick, easy and tasty
