OK, so it is not a Grand Marque, but this is a really decent champagne and was on the shelves at £30 a few weeks ago so this is a huge reduction.

There is a Vintage blanc de blanc 2002 for £8.99
and a Vintage 2000 for £9.99

loads available in my local store.

Fantastic with Strawberries and Cream

Hi
Thanks for posting. I have added an image to your post.
This is a link, made by rayman, which explains how to add images in great detail. It’s worth taking a look at if you are going to post more deals in future : - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/339941/how-to-post-and-host-images-for-thr/

I'll be the first to add the inevitable "you are better off with water, it's cheaper" comments.

Good price :)

"was on the shelves at £30 a few weeks ago so this is a huge reduction."

Knowing fine well that no-one in their right mind would pay anywhere near 30 quid for it, but when they reduce it again, someone would fall, no plummet for the old, "Was 30 quid, now nine" marketing ploy!

C'mon nihcaj. Much as a loathe Tesco, £9 for a bottle of Vintage Champagne is damn good whatever the previous sales history. It's barely more than a bottle of Chablis from a minor vinyard.

(It always amuses me to see blanc de blanc written on some Champagnes as if it's something really special when traditionally the main grape variety for Champagne is the pinot noir - used in red burgundies.)

Well it's the time of year for flogging off lighter Champagne - a blanc de blancs will probably be all chardonnnay, and I dare say it will be frequently mixed with orange juice anyway!
Cheap stuff being flogged off cheap, not to say it isn't OK value, but the 30 quid thing is just the sort of thing that should have anyone regular to this site rolling the floor!

I know the £30+ is marketing to allow for future promotions.

the point I was trying to make was that it wasnt one of their usual 'was 27.99 - now half price at 13.99'.

they used this champange for such as promotion a while back with a was 34.99 down to 17.49 and at that price it wasnt a bad deal, not great, but not bad.

The fact that it was subsequently reduced again down to 8.99 is the point. It is a decent champange and you cant even find one in aldi for that price, so in my book that made it a good deal.

The blanc de blanc is lighter and some people prefer it to the usual blend of pinot noir / meunier / chardonnay, which is why i mentioned it.

If it is all marketing hype and mirrors, please let us know of all those other vintage champagnes out there at under £10, from you post there must be dozens I have missed.

You will find them on the shelves next to the £4.50 1Kg tins of Sevruga caviare on BOGOF - they wont' exist, nor would you expect them to exist.
It's a very rare thing to get anything truly premium for a real cheap price, unfortunately :-(

If the producers thought that they could be selling decent vintage champagne that would retail for £9 a bottle, they wouldn't be selling it to Tesco for about £3 or £3.50, they would be selling it to someone else for more than that themselves.
Tesco clearly couldn't get rid of it at whatever it was before, but no doubt now they will, and that's probably it's true worth, it's a lot easier if you pretend it's "worth 30 quid" first though. To the seasoned bargain hunter, inflated original prices mean it's nothing to get excited about, and if they are putting Orange in it, to drink it like fizzy pop, they might just continue sticking that into Cava for 4 quid a bottle, much like all 9 quid a bottle champagne as seen at Christmas-time

I was in Tesco this evening and was looking at the champagne as I need to buy some in next few weeks and the cheapest was £14.99 - so none of this in my local that I could see (Honiton). Mind you most of the champagnes were reduced. I didn't have a clue what to get - I don't want to spend much more than £15. We usually drink cava!! Any recommendations?

There is absolutly nothing wrong with cava. Pound for pound a bottle of cava will almost always beat champagne, especially at the lower end of the market.

If its for a special occassion and you are intent on the bottle stating that it is champagne then fair enough. Personally i'd rather have a £15 bottle of cava than champagne........

Yes, I think I would agree with that too.

Now has anyone tried the british sparkling wines - the Nytimber and other sparkling wines from the north and south downs in Sussex?:whistling: Its superb and even Os Clarke says its the next champagne. I think better than any of the french stuff even up to the £30 bottles...

I could mention that chanoine also own the lanson lable, that a vintage champage needs to be stored longer than cheaper NV, the grapes come from Grand Cru vinyards, not cheap co op village grapes, that a quick look on the net shows it for sale in calais at €18.

A few weeks ago I posted that sainsburys were selling off their Jadot Meursault half price at £11 to make way for newer stuff. but of course that was probably cheap crap too wasnt it and only worth a fiver.

Its amazing how many masters of wine we have on HDUK

and people wonder why there are fewer posts nowadays !

Got some of the 2000 vintage last week at York (Askham Bar) Hope there's some left now it's 25% off 6 or more.

Over the last few years I've bought the 2000 vintage when it was priced at £35.00 reduced to £17.50 and again when it was £39.99 reduced to £19.99...

I thought it tasted excellent as well as being very good value at those prices! For less than a tenner it tastes even better.
