What's the knack with these to avoid food poisoning? Do they cook the food too quickly on the outside first?

Cook the food in the oven first.

There'll be literally hundreds of guides online about barbecuing safely, Google is your friend :)

Cook the food in the oven first.

That's what I thought but wondered if there were any other tips as using the oven partly defeats the object.

I know and that applies to 99.99% of the other questions asked daily on here but the thread got me thinking as I have one of these boxed in the shed, never used and the good weather is making me think of cranking it up so just wanted some instant feedback.

What results would Google show if no one discussed things, like in a forum, here?

I know it defeats the object. I like to boil frozen chicken before putting on the BBQ, but other things like homemade burgers or sausages, just put them on raw. Just make sure the BBQ isn't too hot.

Get a barbecue with a lid , fill one side with coal and leave the other side empty, cook your stuff on the empty side chicken, sausage etc with the lid on for enough time to cook through, basically oven cooking the food, then do the last few minutes on the coal side with the lid off turning regular so as not to burn and you'll have wonderful barbecued food that isnt cremated, the barbecue on this deal you could get away with burgers, sausages , hot dogs etc if you constantly turn them but I would spend a little bit more and get a barbecue with a lid tbh.

Also after cooking all the food, with the barbecue still hot use a damp cloth to clean the grill, so much easier than waiting for it to cool
