It's a nice full bodied wine which goes well with Findus Crispy Pancakes or possibly a Lion Bar

Like a bottle of chateauneuf de pape I'm fine like wine when I start to rap.....

Good deal so hot but having tried it I found it no better than Aldi`s £4.49 torro locco wine. Just an over rated label like Grey Goosevodka.
#6
What year is it though? Key element for CNdP missing from OP!

May be better to keep hold of it for a while

I can't make comparisons with that wine in particular but a proper CNdP is one of the best wine experiences you can have under £30 - if you like the fuller flavour that is!

I agree that some CNdP is sold on brand, but to make such a sweeping statement is misleading

Fair enough but the cndp I bought was very average taste wise and didnt justify its price. Just a pity as Id bought a few bottles of it even though it was expensive at the time. So I`d bought the real stuff and it was average at best and a waste of money imho.
Theres far better wines out there that are cheaper and taste better than this wine does.

Should be nice with some lemonade in.

Aldi's Toro Loco Tempranillo is delicious tbf.

I was in Asda today and they had a bottle of CNDP for £9.

Good price for this wine, not a big fan of Chateauneuf-du-crap. Bit overrated, worth £10 a bottle maybe but no more.

Aldi's Toro Loco Tempranillo is delicious tbf.

Another one that's quite overrated but cheap! Maybe the 2009 one was alright, or whenever it was after it got that raving review but since then, they'll just been knocking out some other cheap plonk for big profit.

Chateauneuf-du-pape is an enourmous wine region, producing 3 times as much wine as the whole of England, spread over 180 producers.

It's only natural that there will be good and not-so-good wine within this range, but the not-so-good wine can still command a decent price because of the well-known label.

I haven't tried this specific wine, but my experience of the usual Christmas discounted supermarket CNdP has been pretty mediocre. I'm pretty sure that there will be plenty of wines for £10 that are nicer than this one, even if they don't have "special offer" stickers on them.

Good price on the pape but there's better out there a lot cheaper. Try the carta roja gran reserva in sainsburys, it's usually on offer at around £6 or the black label reserva torro loco. If you're looking for a nice red try a South American carmenere or a saint emilion which is better than pape in my opinion.

Goes great with pie & peas!

Wow that's cheap! Xmas presents!! ;)

Generally, this. It's a bit sweeping, but if you don't know wine then at the £10 a bottle mark Carmenere is a good shout.

That's my mates birthday present sorted

Agree with all the comments re CNdP being a label thing. Lots of not so cheap but nasty supermarket wines from that region that taste like a £2 bottle.
For reference for people who like a full bodied wine may I suggest a decent Argentinian Malbec (like Tupengato - http://www.marksandspencer.com/tupungato-cabernet-sauvignon-malbec-case-of-6/p/p21126700 ) Under £9 and WONDERFUL. Still in stock in store if you are lucky.
Or my personal fav for <£10 wine is an ITALIAN red! Surani Contarossa ( https://www.majestic.co.uk/Surani-Costarossa-zid13073 ) around £8 a bottle if you buy more than 2 and amazing for the price.
Enjoy ;)

Not sure if available online

Can never understand those who post a deal with "don't know if it's available online".

I've tried this wine and it is mediocre at best and probably worth £9-10. Voted hot for the good discount on offer.

chateaux neutral De pape is not a brand it's a region. not all cndp wines are the same. its akin to saying all ciders from somerset are the same

This is expired - now showing as £12.99 :(

This always reminds me of a snooty woman on come dine with me, she took her own wine (CNdP) because she didn't want to drink the other hosts cheap wine! oO
#31
Why are people saying it is delicious? Taste is purely subjective. I've had a few bottles of this stuff and it tastes very average (that's imo).

Not going to disagree, but what would you say was the best bang for buck that's flying under the radar at the moment?

£5 for the wine and £5 for the label!

CndP isn't made in a factory like Coca-Cola! You really can't determine it's quality based just on the region.

For £10, I'd probably buy this - it's certainly one of my stalwarts: http://www.waitrose.com/shop/DisplayProductFlyout?productId=22428

The Aldi Argentinian Malbec is excellent as well. It's £5-6 and flies off the shelves where I live.
