Called my local branch this morning and they said they had these in stock but his screen price was £299. Online shows £229 - dont know if this is a glitch but I cant find anything better for the same price !!! I had a an Acer 5315 and these are brilliant laptops that perform seamlessly - whats more is their customer service is good if you need them. Overall for not alot of money you get good value!

Very cheap, but too underpowered for me (single core 2GHz). Nice spot though.

Pretty terrible specs even for the low price, try the dell outlet store or the same laptop on ASDAdirect for alittle more with 3x the specs!
#3
Depends what you are doing with it ... for general surfing, photos and music files this will do the job. Could do with a RAM upgrade tho!

Looks a lot cheaper than elsewhere. Might be underpowered but you aint going to find something this cheap. Plus for general surfing, emailing etc it is more than good enough. Heat added!

50% more, although I have to agree that if you can afford a bit more you'll get a much better machine that won't frustrate and make you wish you'd spent the extra. But this is a pretty good price if they honour it.

ACER????before trying the product try the reviews on net.
I personally would not buy an acer product myself

 very good price, this should not be very slow considering it has a dedicated 'ATI Radeon 256 MB of memory graphics card' (if it is really present). Also this is wide screen 16:9 which looks pretty cool. The processor is just about a year old released in Aug 2008. Not a bad choice if you wish to get online and do some word processing. better than a netbook.

It's lying, I bought one a month ago, it comes with Intel X4500M but not ATI Radeon 256MB. Don't bother to buy.

Dont knock it if you havent tried it - thats exactly the attitude I had ( Acer...no way!) but after owning one for a year I was pretty impressed. I think Acer is up n coming with its new range of slimline laptops and the quality speaks for itself. The brand might not sit well with a few but its not a bad choice in my opinion. Reviews are confusing - one says theyre the best in its range and the other says its a pile of kak - who do you believe?

Could you not of returned it as it didnt match the specs stated?

Looks like a good buy to me, my wife has just got an Acer laptop and it's really good.

I got an Acer 8930G for over £700 from comet and have had nothing but trouble. The fingerprint reader stopped working after 2 weeks, the wifi and the screen both stopped working after 2 months and now 5 months on the touch pad and the touch sensitive multimedia controls have stopped working. Acer's customer service is pretty ordinary as well. Personally, I'd stick to Dell from now on.

Whilst I'm not a fan of ACER - let's stop believing that the DELL Outlet site is so wonderful - it IS for maybe for one day out of 30 - when those special offers are doled out.

At other times it has to be the biggest con and rip off known to the retail world!!

parts start to go on acer laptops ive fixed a few of them and they all have the same problem i would never buy an acer laptop.

save yourself the hastle and do not buy a Acer laptop. Nothing but trouble and poor customer service.
Also long turn arounds on repairs

my last two laptops have been Acer. Last one got nicked when we got burgled!

But i have to say I think they are really good for he money. Last one cost £350 from Asda and came with 2.2GHz Turion X2, Radeon graphics card, 3 GB Ram, 150 gb hard drive, wide screen and all usual extras oh and vista and office!

Despite it being a bargain though i have had not really had any probs. For a while the mice got oversensitive but i figured this out and that’s it really. I would def recommend Acer.

Typing this on my acer laptop. Had it for three months now, bought this to replace a dell.

I have to say i will be buying a dell instead next time as although the acer looks great and has great spec for the money it is not built as solidly and is not as stable as my dell.

My dell laptop was built like a tank compared to this and tbh i would not recommend an acer based on my unbiased experience.

Celeron Is enough info (Get it for free and install it yourself with (XP) with bare essentials and it's fine)

Acer laptops are ok as long as you dont need to return them for anything. Customer service was useless, turnaround was slow and the machine was returned in tatty condition. Also there were a couple of extra faults which of course acer denied they had caused.
Prior to this I had owned 2 other acers, but I dont think I will buy one again.

I repair laptops and Acer is the most common faulty one, normally just after the warranty expires......

wish this one had a webcam..
im looking for a similar laptop with a webcam built in. anybody?

Ive had all makes of laptops and everyone has been a pain in the backside at some point so I buy on price.

To put it into perspective the backlight on my DELL lappy went last week and ive only had it six months. The engineer who fixed it says that faulty screens are 90percent of his call outs. All im saying is that dont listen to the fanboys, buy it if it satisfies your needs, and if it doesnt why are you wasting your time reading this?

I fix laptops.

I see all makes, usually hard drive faults which can't be blamed on the manufacturer of the laptop.

However i have to say I've repaired more HP's than any other laptop make.

I've had very few acers in the door.

You could probably buy a laptop webcam cheaply from ebuyer or somewhere if this laptop was of a suitable spec for you in all other areas?!

To be honest, I think all laptops will have their problems and different people will go through different experiences with each brand. I don't think people should slate a brand just because they had a problem with one of the products, as for every person that does have a problem, there will most likely be 10 times that (or more) that don't!

The same goes for the people who repair them, yes they may be able to say they get in more of a certain brand of laptop or whatever; but the reality is that they can't 100% say if this is accurate as they're only going off the customers who go to them in the first place. You may get 100 customers going to repairman A who have mainly bought acer laptops and thus more acers come back in for repair... where as repairman B down the road or wherever may have 100 customers who mainly bought HP laptops. That doesn't mean there's a larger percentage of HP or Acer laptops going faulty than others, just that the business they're getting in is from people who have mainly bought these brands at this moment in time.

I have heard pretty much every laptop brand being said to be rubbish and always having more in for repair than other brands... my friend says he repairs more Toshibas than any other laptop, we've had Acer and HP in this thread and I've read on numerous internet pages about most of the other brands too.

All equipment is liable to break, especially laptops; regardless of the brand. :-)

Well said, I'd happily buy this laptop after reading the comments here. If Acer were really as bad as the thread suggested, they wouldn't be in business.
