Cheap flights from New York to London @ Iceland Express £149.00
Iceland Express currently have very cheap single tickets from New York (Newark) to London (Gatwick). It's not direct but the layovers aren't aggressive and for £150...well I think it is worth the wait.
Using this return, I was able to book my outbound and inbound flights separately for £130 less than any comparison website or individual airline was offering. Might be of more use to those planning last minute breaks than those who plan months in advance, but thought it was worth mentioning.

I checked dates and got £299 return, just checked again 5 mins later £576. I guess they are getting a few hits and the site can't handle it.

You have to pay extra for EVERYTHING (and this includes water) and the flight is very cramped. Sometimes I do feel that these things can be a bit of a false economy. ALso, their customer servic seems to be very poor.

You obviously have to compare with what else is available, dates I were checking in August at £299 are £731 with Virgin, OK Virgin are direct and you get free drinks but the food is inedible and staff can be hit and miss like any airline, for £432pp saving I would be willing to risk it, others wouldn't.
id pay the extra rather than take a chance at a bad start of a holiday!
