Ok, so perhaps an odd deal, however if salt and grit are not available then try cat litter!!

At £1.16 a bag for the value stuff, a very cheap alternative :o)

Cat litter is absorbent isn't it????

Cover my drive in it and end up trapped indoors by swollen kitty litter....
No thank you! Not for me....
#5
£1.16 is the normal price. How is this a deal?
#6
cheaper just picking it up from the street.
#7
Turdtastic...........Blocked in by snow and S**T ...........walking in a winter wonderland............:-D
#8
just meant it's a good price instead of having to buy that quantity of salt or if out of stock
banned#9
I like your thinking! Personally I'd buy a bag of sand and a bag of salt, mix them together and bobs your uncle.

Sainsburys is selling a liquid alternative, I didnt have a proper look at it but basicly it was 2.5 of liquid which claims to be 20 times more effective in removing snow and ice is was £8 in the petrol station I am sure it will be cheaper somewhere else but if u need 1 to clear your drive then £8 is a good do.

I was just trying to help people that might be stuck with ice outside their houses, thanks for the nice comment, hope it made you feel better

Hmmm, I was a bit over the top I suppose. Maybe you could have listed the idea in one thread in misc as there are no deals on the actual items you posted anyway. Spreading clay all over your path/drive is not a good idea anyway as it will just absorb water then freeze at night making things worse. Once thawed when the weather warms up your left with a lovely mess to clear up. Salt washes away, clay will too........eventually.

Haha, Funny you should post this. I went to the Sainsburys in Salford, Manchester today, and the Trolley boy there was sprinking this all over the car park!! Couldn't believe it when I saw it.

Still if you're desperate, then it's worth a try I suppose....
#23
It was meant to be a light hearted alternative, grit and salt are hard to get hold of, if you have no other means of clearing your drive/paths this would do,it helps your car get grip and would hopefully stop people from falling over, yes you might have to clear it away when the snow clears, sorry for wasting every bodies time trying to help

Your a little on the touchy side lol. Sand is a better alternative for grip alone than cat litter and sand doesn't make a nasty mess, then brush or hose it onto your lawn or borders which adds drainage/makes your soil nicer, 2 jobs in one.

I just don't understand when people have to be like u were when someone tries to help others, yes you can use a vast number of alternatives, this was my version. Glad u find it funny when u upset someone

Can't see how cat litter would help, it would just absorb water then go all sludgy! Then the day after it's just lumpy iced snow... Im miffed anyways my cats can't go out cos the snow is too deep and everywhere has sold out of litter now!!!!
And if you going to start with de-icer and anti freeze please be careful not to leave any dripping or lying around... cats, dogs and wildlife love the sweet taste of it - sadly it only takes a couple of small spoonfuls or less for it to be fatal. unfortunately this was the case for a cat I found last week, suspected poisoning and sadly the vet I took it to put the poor thing to sleep.

All these comments and not 1 single person has mentioned about all of the chemicals that is in things like cat litter etc!! when the snow melts the chemicals will be in the melted snow and end up in our drains!!!

Chemicals? It's clay, or fullers earth to be more precise:thinking:

That's a good idea - I'm gonna spread the contents of my cats' litter tray on the road as an environmentally friendly alternative to landfill. Glasgow roads are s**t anyway so it won't make much difference (might fill in a few potholes).

It may make the road more sticky and provide more grip for cars.

Except all of the ones with deoderants in! or is this a natural sort of deoderant? deoderants are used to reduce the smell, they are chemically sprayed!

Please dont. I have been trying for three days to buy cat litter for my cats and its sold out everywhere. :)

Plenty in stock at my local Sainsburys.

If you ask a member of staff, they can find out when more stock will be delivered by using the handsets.
