While on the hunt for cheap hard drive thought I would try staples website, while all the 16 external hard drives are amazingly cheap they are all out of stock! So thought I would go to nearest shop:
Verbatim 2 tb for - £84 and 1 tb for - £54
Iomega 1tb - £59
Iomega 1tb network hard drive - £69
Seagate expansion 1.5tb - £89
WD elements 500gb - £49
Grundig digital set top box with timeshift - £25
I think these are all discontinued items, not sure if the deal is nationwide if someone could confirm that would be great. Prices seem very fair for high street. This was the store at teesside park.
Also manager very friendly, offered me three years cover, including accidents in first year for £3 so I accepted. Hopefully this will be nationwide, and more will get this! Cheers
James

Yeh true but I just like things simple and prefer buying things from a shop or a reliable seller as that will be my first point of call if anything goes wrong :). Pretty suspicous that they are that cheap £60 maybe but if an offer to good to be true it often is.

Does anyone know if you can take the hardrive out of these externals?, some you can't ive read.

You can ALWAYS take a drive out of its enclosure, the only question is whether you can do so without destroying said enclosure so that it can be used again - is that what you're asking?

Not always WD, Samsung, Seagate etc. have proprietary connectors on some externals (remove the SATA port) so that they have a direct USB interface to save on space.

Are you talking about the smaller, portable types though? I meant the large desktop drives (I should have mentioned that) - surely those are all SATA interfaced? (My logic being that those types of external HDs aren't portable, so space is not at such a premium, and it's far more cost efficient to only make HDs with only one type of interface.)

Thanks for the info, BTW, I only took out a handful of sealed drives, and none in the last few years.

Guarantee its a scam. You'll probably get a coin delivered in the post instead. Check out the good old 'coin scam'. You'll get your money back though......after a month or so.

YEP! It WAS too good to be true, and it clearly WAS a hacked account. Listings cancelled by ebay AND the latest (Neutral) FB, the only one related to one of the drives ("Had to withdraw my payment as paypal said Unregistered user") was ALSO completely ERADICATED from the FB list - only ebay can do that.
