I've been using this for calls to India for quite a while & the quality seems to be quite good.

I was gonna give this a cold vote (far too many of these about) but had a look to see what its all about...

Glad I did. Have subscribed and paid a top up.

Why? What's different?

Firstly, you can use your mobile free minutes to make international calls. OK, theres a few of them about... but, you can add your contacts onto your account. You are then given a unique local number (and I mean local ie I've used Orpington as my local location - 'cos its where I live - and our friend can be contacted with a 01689 XXXXXX number. Nothing more to do. Just program each international contact onto your account and phone and you wouldn't even know you are calling overseas.

There are a few other bits which look good (including being given a free local number for people to contact you on)

Heat and rep from me....... How it pays to read up!

Thanks for that, I'm going to have a look now :)

Is it possible to add family onto this account, as I;'m assuming it works on callerid system to authenticate from landlines or mobiles, so can I add my parents line as well my own for example?

Yes it is. I've got 2 or 3 mobiles + my home phone on my account. Despite all the other 'cheap' world wide call threads on HUKD, I've found this to be the cheapest to the country I call most.
Call quality does vary and you do get some drop-outs.

Yes, I've registered, I'll topup and test it later, thanks :)

:thumbsup:This sounds great.

I tend to use call1899 (from landline) and have done for years. While the pence per min have dropped, the connection charges have gone up  and also their connection problems :whistling:. They have a similar setup i.e .from mobile you phone landline number that redirects you to connect at call1899 rates to whereever you want, but I've never used it.

:thumbsup:Thanks for posting I'm off to register and recommend. This seems much more straightforward Heat and Rep added :)

Forgot to say with call1899 you give your creditcard no and they just bill you monthly. LocalPhone topups sounds better, more chance of keeping eye on spending.

If you only call from land lines, other services with virtual nimbers are cheapest (0844xxx = virtual numbers). Don't forget the additional connection charge of your phone provider (BT = 8p per call)

If you have free mobile minutes, any service with a local (non-virtual) number would be cheapest. (01xx, 02xx, 03xx = non-virtual numbers, 08xxx = virtual numers)

Line quality varies but I have had positive experiences with most services. I just don't re-use a service when there are problems, which is no problem because there are so many.

Best site to find the cheapest service is callchecker

Yeah that was my plan, mobile minutes.

Offers nothing that I can't get from Finearea/Betamax companies eg. Voipcheap.com/.co.uk where credit give totally FREE calls for LONG periods. As others have mentioned, usually it would be better to check rates with the MSE Callchecker anyway if you want to use a callback sysytem.

The only favourable point is the availability of free local numbers (good choice of destination towns), although it's no big deal, as other free incoming numbers are around too.

Hi can I only register and not pay credit, this way I get a local number and use it from my free mobie minutes ?
#11
unless I'm wrong with this service you pay for the calls (debited from the balance you to up) and also pay or consume your free mobile minutes.
I think the call checker from MSE using a 0845 number is more straight forward unless you need to make call from mobiles because you don't have a landline.....

I have plenty of spare inclusive minutes.

What is disappointing for me was not being able to have multiple home locations, as I wanted my sister in Spain to call off my account.

I just used Paypal for a £10 topup (£10 being the Paypal minimum) £1.30 VAT surcharge (13%??) will test service tomorrow as it seems my payment is still "processing"

Is there a surcharge when using a debit or credit card???

it'll stay processing until you verify the account. (at least for debit cards!)
