I was looking to buy one of the large gammon joints on offer and cut it into several pieces so it could be cooked fresh over Christmas. And then I found these.
Although labelled as part of the Basics range, they are just the tapered end of a gammon joint that has been cut off.
The biggest bonus is they don't have a thick layer of fat on them, in fact very little fat at all. And you don't have to rush to buy one as this is the regular price.
Ideal if you don't want a huge joint, want to spend even less than the special offer prices or don't want to waste your money on copious amounts of fat!!
The Sainsbury's ones come in at over half a kilo, so cost around the two quid mark. These will easily feed two or three people with some left over for sandwiches. They're cooked in about an hour and are delicious.
They only show the unsmoked one online, but I have been buying smoked in store, dated for after the big man has been to visit. Tesco have them for the same price, but I can't vouch for the quality as I've not tried them. http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=262300808
