In that case you're probably not entitled to the upgrade - that should go to whoever (now) owns the version you sold.

if the offer was from microsoft then yes id agree, however the offer is from amazon, and i will be sent the claim code to my amazon account email where the product will then be sent heres the link to the terms http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_84366313_1?ie=UTF8&docId=1000321063&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=special-product-offers-3&pf_rd_r=1EFPV8JXWRM50Y469V5Y&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=470374113&pf_rd_i=B0013O77GM

+1 Because you owned the copy of Vista at some stage doesn't entitle you to the upgrade. YOU have to own and have Vista to legally get the upgrade.

Hi Pete
What upgrade entitlement is this and when and how will it happen?

As the OP stated - windows 7 upgrade can upgrade from xp or vista so as long as you already have that on your target computer you will be fine.

So basically he is saying that the upgrade isnt directly linked to the copy of Vista that was bought to get the upgrade, but any legal copy of Vista/XP can be used to perform the upgrade with.

Therefore if you own Vista already - you buy this then sell the second copy of Vista or even sell the original version and then use the upgrade yourself with your "2nd" copy of Vista.

Should be fine in theory and you get the upgrade for what you pay minus what you can sell one of your (now) 2 copies of Vista for.

I am not sure if this is what you meant, but you cant actually upgrade from XP to Windows 7.

You can BUY an upgrade from XP to Windows 7, but you will have to do a clean install (wipe the disk and "start again").
#10
you can with the new upgrade version release for pre-order today

If you sell your copy of Vista on ebay for £164 then this deal will only cost you £1. Why not put that as the deal price if we're just making numbers up?

Yeah I meant you can use the upgrade with either vista or xp but will have to do a clean install with xp and might even have to do a clean install with xp as the actua versions you can upgrade from are very limited.

I doubt this plan would work. Surely you would need the vista on your pc and then use the win7 upgrade disk to upgrade.

MS will surely then invalidate the original vista key

i bought mine before september 1st so i get a full copy of windows 7 ultimate, but like i posted if you already have vista or xp on your computer and wish to upgrade this would potentially be the cheapest option

I'll stick with my win7 premium for £40 from pcworld thanks ;-)

This was always going to go sub-zero, it's not really a deal if you have to buy it and sell it.

Ebay has a cost for both listing and delivery, and theres the chance you'll get scammed.

For me this deal has too much messing about.

Keep it simple, if it's the cheapest out there great. :)

If you have to rob Paul to pay Peter and there's a chance Percy might rob you, it's not a deal for me! :p

To the OP: What you are actually suggesting is illegal.

The moment you sell your copy of Vista to somebody else, you need to erase your Windows Vista from your computer. If you keep it and install the upgrade (which is only valid to the person who owns the original copy of Vista) you are committing an illegal act. You might as well download a pirated Windows 7 copy and save yourself the hassle (which of course is also illegal).

PS. I doubt that you will get anything for Vista for much longer, certainly not £100

I agree. Windows 7 is really only important for people who are stuck with Vista or need the extra facilities. Bu if you have a basic computer with a good running Windows XP, there is no need to upgrade.

well my predicament was this, i built a new computer and needed as OS, missed out on the pre order and decided to buy windows 7 ultimate as i am stoked with the RC.
amazon were selling windows 7 ultimate for £160 and vista ultimate for £165 with a free FULL copy of windows 7 ultimate delivered oct 22nd, so i rang them to confirm and ordered vista.
i sold vista today on ebay for £100 and await my copy of windows 7 ultimate on the 22nd october for a mere £65.
vote as cold as you wish but my reason for posting was to help others even though you now only get the upgrade version not the full version to me its still cheaper than paying for the upgrade version at anytime in the future assuming you can sell the retail version of vista on ebay and already have either xp of vista on your computer

this wasnt my proposal, if you already had a vista or xp machine it would be the cheapest way to upgrade you system, which i did say in my origional post

Hey, if you steal it, it's even more of a bargain.
