£10 for a handset locked to a network and with no credit is OK. But I'd rather buy a £20 top up and receive an Android Smartphone unlocked to any network, and have the £20 credit http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/phones/alcatel-onetouch-pixi3-3-5/ppay

Well I'm assuming if your elderly or need a emergency phone thats overkill ;)

Whats the point in a smart phone with no wifi and a miniscule memory?

It's not a smartphone, its a feature phone.

The main purpose is to use it for phone calls and texting.

Same statement could be applied to any 3G handset, inc OP.

Does this support WhatsApp?
#7
It's a feature phone with 3G - At least you'll be able to use email to an extent. People happily vote hot for feature phones at this price,, so 3G is a bonus.

Any ideas if it can be unlocked? Ideal for using on Three pay and go 321

Having physical buttons with 3G is almost unique in todays market. Voda have a ZTE at double the price in Argos.

Having buttons is overkill ? No for some it is more functional.

I use my button phone as my main call/text device as battery power is important to me for surfing internet on my phatlet as well as my old school communication devices to make old school contact 'offline' ;)

Using one device for both is a no no for fitted batteries, I have a 7" and 10" tablet and a phatlet with inbuilt batteries, not a mobile PHONE with buttons with a spare battery in my pocket :)

Anyone found a unlocking service for this phone?
#13
sure i seen unlock info here somewhere http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/

but it turned out it accepted my Anywhere 'roaming' sim so I expect the sim is o2/Manx ? I did not try any other sim
http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5559295 <----Anywhere UK sim, roams on all 4 UK networks

Did you ever find any way? That link from seaniboy suggests that it is possible.

Yeah, problem is they will probably want £15 & I am wondering if it is worth the £5 I paid (I expected the phone to be better & to be unlocked for 99p as has been my experience with previous alcatel phones - wasn't expecting Nokia quality, but wasn't expecting such a clunky phone that frankly feels overpriced at £5).
