Hi, This is my first post so be gentle...
I have searched absolutley everywhere for cheap HD movies but have only found one site which I consider reasonable. Axelmusic.com...
Not a lot of you guys have probably heard of them but I have used them for years - So far i have picked up Serenity, Batman Begins & Pitch Black for 13 quid each (Including P+P). it looks like every week they discount a Hd movie. Obviously not all the movies are cheap, but most of them. They Also take pay-pal. Also they have a cool awards system where if you buy a pre-order item, they give you 10% of your next purchase!!

Just to emphasize - postage is about 1.20... So add 11.50 (or whatever)
- ayaz

Sorry, I guess somebody beat me too it...

Hi ayaz, welcome to the forums. Please try not to create a new merchant for one already in the list. See the help thread in my sig for useful help on creating deals!

We've had a few deals on here from Axelmusic, and they are a good retailer.

DVDPacific is the cheapest I have found as well. Lots of great title for under £10. With cheap postage options as well. Not bad if you want to wait around 7 days for your titles to be delivered.

Great find, thanks ayaz.

This is great, especially with the news of the HD DVD format getting a more competitive push from Toshiba, by lowering it's hardware prices by $100 across the board* next week (hopefully that will apply to Europe soon).

Also I was glad to here about all the forthcoming Universal titles (which are HD DVD only) and that Warner Bros are only releasing the Matrix Trilogy Set on HD DVD for now (that is going to look incredible). :w00t:

Wow, thanks for the site (pacificdvd). Site looks pretty cheaply made so was a bit sceptical at first but if you guys say it's legit then sweet. Pity there isn't many more HD films that i would actually want to own...

Thanks Guys

So is HD beating Blue ray in the format wars?
#9
hope so, I think blurry has more hollywood baking from studios though. When they switch to the same codec as HD DVD things may change though !?

pick option 2 out of the 3, otherwise they will either hold on to your order until everthing you have ordered is ready or they will wait a while and see if you order anything else.

order 1 thing at a time only and pick option 2

this way you pay delivery on each item BUT it doesnt come to more than the dreaded £18 where you have a chance of paying duty.

you can select to have it shipped by air mail which takes about 7 days if ordered on mon-thursday or 2 days more for a weekend. or pay even less and have it sent surface which could technically take upto 28 days, it realistically takes 2 weeks.

yeah definatley, only buy one dvd at a time to avoid custom charges

People you don't wanna buy a dam HD DVD player. Nor do you wanna buy a bloody blu ray player. ;-)

Why not be patient and buy a bloody player that does BOTH of the disc types.

Crapsung... I mean Samsung are getting a player that reads both types out pretty soon.

Why do you want a betamax VHS war when you can buy a player that reads both types?

So when HD - DVD's lose the battle which they will :giggle: .... the discs are going to be the bargain basement crap that we all like to post on HUKD.

:whistling:

Anyway for those who want to find out more (or think I am telling fairy tales... ) have a look at: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/06/samsung_hdvd_bluray_player/

For more details :)

i havent bothered looking at which ever link you have posted, im guessing it shows blurry selling more? i can post from sources which show the opposite.

yes indeed, instead of spending £130 on an add on for the xbox 360 to play hd-dvd, or spending £425 :p on a ps3 which plays blurry, you would rather spend £900 on the LG dual format player , which plays neither fantastically well?

go on my son.:giggle:

I think regardless of any statistics it is far too early on in the game to pick a winner although I know many blu-ray forums who would already claim they have won. Ultimately as it stands now the only way a movie enthusiast will be happy is if they can play both HD-DVDs and Blu-ray discs as there are key titles that will be available on one but not the other in each instance.

Although studio support is subject to change also (ie: to the favour of the "winning" format)

i think it will basically come down to which format speilberg and lucas films wishes to support. having said that, lucas is not very good at making speedy decisions.

if starwars / indiana jones come out on one format only, the chances are, that format will win.

or infact which ever format brings out those extrutiatingly long lord of the ring films.

disney have pinned themselves to blurry for now, but as mentioned, which ever looks like the most likely to win will have the film studios changing their minds to.

cheap chinese hd dvd players will be out in 3 months, just like your £20 dvd players, im sure there will be £150 hd dvd players out in 3 months, this will also help people chose as sony have complete control over who is allowed to produce blurry players, they are not going to let people like alba make blurry.
hd dvd players will get the hd dvd badge as long as they can play the format fully and correctly including all the interactive stuff.
#16
Am I correct in thinking any region will play on my XBox HD-DVD drive?

you are correct, for hd dvd only, it only plays region 2 dvd ( or the main xbox 360 only plays region 2, not checked the add on)

New Line Cinema (lord of the rings) are exclusive to HD DVD although they are only releasing the theatrical edition of their films (not sure when though) not the extended edition (and people who are likely to buy them in HD are pining for the extended editions)

also the porn industry sided with HD DVD so people are saying that it is over (as they sided with VHS would win last time around) and because porn DVDs out sell normal films by at least 2-1 etc although I am not sure it would be the same for HD porn

will be interesting to see the hd porn interactive menu :w00t:

but yes, the pron will also add to the attraction of over 18's looking to purchase a hi def dvd player.

From what i've read it seems HD-DVD will eventually come out on top. It was already winning but Sony's PS3 with it's blu-ray changed things a little. Sony did prevent the porn industry from using their format for their content, god only knows why, but that is only going to hurt them further. Also, i've read that they're still using old mpeg2 compression while hd-dvd is using mpeg4 compression. HD-DVD is also backwards compatible with DVDs.

All in all, i think eventually a lot more film companies are going to start moving to HD-DVDs camp because HD-DVD seems to be selling more and those companies don't want to lose out on the possibilty of making $$$. Sony released some figures trying to show they were selling more discs, but that was when they were giving away vouchers with their PS3. They're using a lot of dirty tactics for their propaganda. Their original main selling point of "200gigs!!111" isn't even coming to fruition as their smaller discs are having problems - couple that with the fact that they're using older compression techniques and their discs don't even seem that appealing.

If i was a betting man i'd go with HD-DVD coming out on top (especially when coupled with the porn - seems like sony don't learn from their mistakes of betamax, attrac, minidisc, umd etc).

Back to the opening deal, I would strongly recommend people remember the basics of buying online before sending any money or disclosing bank or credit card details.

1. Does the site offer a physical mailing address where you can contact them in case of queries (not just a P.O. Box)?

2. Does the site have contact telephone number? (not a mobile or other type of personal number)?

the site the OP talks about is a genuine site who are regarded quite highly on AV forums.

i have used dvd pacific a fair few times so can recommend them and they are genuine, AV forums people state that axelmusic are genuine, i registered with them but found the films i wanted slightly cheaper at dvdpacific.
#24
Oh I'm sure they are genuine in so far as they actually exist, but how will anyone contact them should things turn bad?

..and don't always trust what others on a forum say - stay safe!

Maybe it will be the porn industry that decides which format becomes the winner? Wasn't that the case with VHS v Betamax?

i can sort of understand what you are saying, however, if we took that line of thought, we would never buy from anywhere as most is word of mouth unless you actually buy from a web site, and in order to do that , you would be taking a risk as you would have never ordered from there before your first order.

buy paying on your credit card and only buying 1 item at a time and only buying the 1 , waiting for it to arrive and then buying another, i see no reason to not buy from any site that has several thousand peopple recommending it.

yes although some survey showed that alot of people dont want to look at porn in HD so I would not bank on it
#28
lot of other cheaper places do exist :) like movietyme, dvdpacific, amazon.co.uk (US sellers)
#29
porn????

when was the vhs vs betamax war.
and what do we now have that we did not have then?

please, porn is going to have no say in this war.

plus, sony did not block porn on blu ray, they only had 2 factories up and running at the time and they needed all the production capacity for the big players. but journalists pay no attention to the facts. porn is now getting burned onto blu ray

but again, do not put any stock in that, i promise you it means absolutely nothing in 2007

i wanted to ask if i have a hd dvd player can i play any films on hd dvd on the hd xbox 360 player?
#31
If you are asking does the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player play all the HD-DVDs a dedicated player would play then the answer is yes. HD-DVDs are region free if this is also a consideration.

Your question isn't very clear.
#32
yes, any HD DVDs and region 2 DVDs
