So I know its not a deal per se, but thought it would be worth getting the word around as I've just found out this evening that I'm owed £210, and the wife is owed £517! Not a bad result for 10 minutes work - can't hurt to check.

It's easiest if you have a passport to confirm your identity. You can also process a refund from your online account too; its actually quite a nice interface (makes a change) allows you to see tax you've paid, national insurance contributions and estimated pension etc

Once logged in if you have paid to much tax, it should show at the top of the screen below your name, here is a screenshot of mine:

if you need to check you're taking home the right pay you can use an online calculator like https://uktaxcalculator.org/

I got £1800 back and only work part time. That's £1800 less to bomb the middle east for the government.

Checked for a woman yesterday and she got about £400. So later I tried to check mine, it couldn't recognised me. Any reason why?

Are you an illegal immigrant?

Apparently I owe £4267. Brilliant.

Update: Confirmed by HMRC. Time to talk payment plans...

do you not think this would get more coverage in the deals section; just like the marriage allowance deal or the uniform allowance.
I've been using HUKDs for years and never check the misc categories... just the deals.

Moved over, you have to put in to get out :) Cheers again!

its easier to verify, using p60 details. If you dont have these from last year, a quick call to 0300 200 3300 will provide them

is this only if you are self employed?

Always worth a check (although i must admit, i was happy when hmrc sent me a letter in the post saying they owe me £756!! ) heads up, as someone has mentioned, signing up with your passport is the easiest way but dont do what i did and click on the wrong option. Once you click back your account may get locked and you wont be able to try again for another week (as i found out and was told over the phone)

It'll also tell you when you can retire and how much your pension will be.

For a refund 12/13 tax year is as far back as you can go!

No it's for anyone! However if you are self employed you need to use the same credentials as you did when signing up to SA online when first registering to link the PTA to SA.

Is this something where you would be told by them anyway via the post?

Just to confirm - do you need to create a Governemnt Gateway Account?

I just want to make sure I'm clicking on the right option. Thanks

yes you do

One thing to watch out for is if you are a higher rate tax payer that you get tax relief on your pension contributions. Your total pension contribution (not employer) should be deducted from your salary prior to calculation of tax.

If you have a payslip you should do a quick check with this website Ask the taxman

Can't see anything but I'm on my phone. Any ideas where it would show if I'm due a refund?

Nothing :( guess I'll cancel my 60 inch 4k tv then.... bummer :p

pathetic that it requires me to have a passport to sign up to then be able to log in.

Thanks.

Has anyone done it via mobile? If so, where does it tell you you if you have paid too much? Cheers.

Oh drat, I think I had an account about 8-9 years ago, no idea what the signin details are now, don't think I'll be due anything so thinking I won't bother with the effort. Of course now that makes me think I might be due something... Hehehe

Thanks useful Information, My last Rebate was last year but I had to hound them for that alone over the phone etc. They eventually sent me a cheque.

So My Tax Rebate from last year is that for only a 1 Year Period or may there be more money in another Tax year through claiming for a rebate up to the last 4 Years?

I didn't get any alerts like OP did on Homepage so I'm assuming not?
