Didn't know if this should be under sale or tip, but there's a new GC promotion with the £10 or £5 off a minimum spend that varies by merchant, like the last time. The difference with this is you have…

a word on google checkout, i had my account hacked this week and the banks traced the problem back to google checkout, if u go on google and search for fraud and google theres some real issues out there that need to be looked, me personally im not using them anymore for risk of my card being used again, the crafty gits.

Sounds exactly what happened to my mate too. He of the same opinion - won't use Google again.
The only stuff I can find regarding fraud is that peoples cards are being used through GC, not that card details being stolen because they've used GC. The fraudsters will have acquired the card details regardless of the existence of Google Checkout, so there is no reason not to use it! If you know anything to the contrary I'd be very interested as I use GC alot!!

As for their privacy thing, I signed up just after launch in the UK and I've never seen a thing.

3) I understand that using Google checkout does not give you the same consumer protection than buing with a credit card. If you pay using Google checkout, your credit card is used to buy Google money, that is then exchanged for goods later. So - if the goods are not delivered, your credit card company won't help you, as the Google money was delivered.
Why would it not? As far as I understand, the Google money bit is just the intermediary part of the money transfer from customer to merchant and is legally identical to using paypal or whatever.

If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me - I'd like to know if I am!
There are other things that worry me about Google checkout:
1) I'm hearing some of these fraud related things. Paypal and others are much more mature and have already learnt from their mistakes in the past... Google not.
2) Google's privacy statement says that can and will use the info about who you are, what your address is, what you purchased where when as it suits them to drive better business for them, including targetted adverts to you. I don't like that.

I'm not saying that getting £10 off a £30 item is bad, I'm simply saying that I won't use Google checkout personally if the discount is not significant. I won't sell my details for £0.50 worth of discount and increased risk!

i've seen a few things about banks not liking google checkout, it makes you wonder if they're just getting less commission than paypal so just blaming them for when their **** security gets breached.

Stop the message yes, but a big page file makes the memory manager lazy and slows the computer as it will tend USE all that extra space rather than reallocating what it already has.

Glad I did my last order last night
The £10 off logo is still there when you are checking out in ebuyer but its not working when you log into google checkout. So don't get excited if you still see the £10 off logo.
