What Car summary review

For:
The Lacetti undercuts most rivals on price. It has a big cabin, drives well enough and the 1.4 engine is quiet and refined.

Against:
Entry-level cars miss out on some basic equipment and the 1.6-litre engine is gruff. The cabin materials are unappealing and poor roads unsettle the ride.

What Car? says 2 out of 5 stars
The Lacetti is quite good as a cheap A-to-B car if you're not looking to be entertained. But, that's pretty much all that's in its favour. The mid-range 1.6 is the best model in the range

So 2 grand per year depreciation is bad??????? Try a Vauxhall, Ford, Fiat, etc.

£2k after 3 years sounds a bit pessimisitc, but agree it will suffer heavy depreciation. Still its a cheap new motor, and as said, is a good price if you plan to keep it for a long time.

You are going to have to have totally trashed it to get only £2k. The cheapest 3 year old 1.6 Lacetti SX on Autotrader at the moment is £2990. The most expensive is a boggling £5700. Most though are over £4k.

Dont be sorry! Personally I'd never buy this car in a million years, but for some people (those with no sense of taste or style..) this would be a good deal.

Not my taste in a car, but for under 8grand it is a brand new car with a decent kit list, If you have a 10 year old junker and get 500quid for it then you would be doing quite well with this deal.

Think of it this way a very small loan and you could have the worry free motoring for at least 3 years, usually lower insurance, no MOTs to keep worrying about and no maintaining it all the time as it should work without many if any problems.

You can't use autotrader as a guide for prices. Use your common sense - as if the one for £5700 will sell! It's also very unlikely that the one for £2990 will get the full asking price.

Parkers says Private in good condition £3500 on 07 plate

whatsmycar worth says "Price for a car similar to this would be between £3045 and £3260. for a 57 plate

Yeah I'm sure he would bite your arm if you offered him £2000, and of course I'm sure the sellers of the higher priced ones would too. How do all these car dealers manage to stay in business pricing their cars so high? Most have priced their cars at over twice as much as the "experts" on this forum have said they are worth. Like I know they have to make their margins but how do they keep in business? ;)
