If you don't fancy the Kia picanto and you have a car for scrappage you can get the Matiz @ £4995.

In addition you have the chance to purchase a 3 years Fixed Price Service Package at an optional cost of £249 (basically you can service the car for 3 years). In order to mantain your warranty you need to service your car every year.

Road tax still at £35 on this car as well.

You get 3 years warranty and 1 year free roadside assistance. I hope it can be of use to anyone who's after a cheap but new car.

Likened to a sowing machine by a mate whose had the misfortune to test drive one. . .

Voted cold - the scrappage scheme does not exist any more. Garages are merely stating that they'll give you 2k off for your banger. If you check last years retail price on these cars - or any other cars for that matter, you'll see that the majority of them had a far less retail value on them a year ago.

Nearly went for the Astra 1.4 before xmas for just £6999. Everyone told me to avoid, due to small engine.

Was still considering, but now up to £8999, so my scrappage allowance would count for nothing.

They blame increas in VAT.Wow, thats some increase.

Scrappage scheme has been extended until March 2010

The Picanto seems to get better reviews from the motoring press than the Matiz - but if you can afford it the Hyundai i10 might be a better bet

Or we should all wait for http://www.dailymail.co.uk/motoring/article-1164150/1-390-worlds-cheapest-car-headed-Britain.html

I don't know how much it'll cost here in the uk...Looks like the ugly copy of the smart car!

All those decrying the Matiz stick your hands up. What do you all drive?

This a great wee car. We ran one for over 2 years during which time my son used it more than anyone as his first drive. The car was driven hard during our ownership by all the family, including me. Over that time nothing went wrong with it. Economy , first class.

Only reason we sold it was to have something bigger. We`d sold on our main, larger car for a 2 seat job.

So, c`mon all you Top Gear buffs, what do you really drive that`s so much better than the deserving Matiz?
