I was thinking of getting this for my mum. Could you give me some idea of what is wrong with it e.g. difficult to follow instructions, hard to get ingredients etc?

I have the book and enjoyed the accompanying TV show - I'd definitely recommend it, especially at that price.

A lot of the ingredients aren't hard to source at all, though you might need a local chinese supermarket, but they're quite common these days aren't they?

The chicken chilli chow-mein is really easy and brilliant. I've cooked lots of tasty chinese meals but this is closest to a take-away taste that I've made, with the added bonus of being healthier too.

Agree, it's crap. She's probably a good presenter, but from a technical perspective, she's no cook. She doesn't seem to understand some of the basics of Chinese cooking. Good if you like "Chings idea of Chinese food". Bad if you like traditional concepts of Chinese food.

She is rubbish. Can't cook. Should'nt cook. Definitely not a chef!

The only thing I remember from the TV series is that in almost every recipe she used a drop of shao hsing rice wine [or if you don't have that, which most people wouldn't, use a drop of dry sherry] :-D .

This show surely must have put the sales of shao hsing rice wine through the roof.

The only thing I remember from the TV series is that she described every dish as "Absolutely delicious!"

Cute but annoying is how I would describe her

Um, minimum spend on them are £15 and £20...so price is £8.49 unless you buy 4 and sell the others on Ebay. The Amazon deal posted yesterday is better...

She isn't even hot? I am so hot for Ching! She's in my top 5 (okay, maybe 10!) women...but then I do have a thing for orientals :w00t: :P

so do i. My girlfriend is from Hong Kong in fact. But she doesnt swing it for me as a hot asian. She just looks a bit...... rubbish

i like to call it my Asian Persuasion

I got this book last year along with the Indian Food Made Easy from the Book People and I quite like it. The recipes are indeed easy enough, and the ingredients not too hard to find, at least down here in London. It might be a bit harder if you're too far away from a big supermarket, but you can always substitute what you can't find, for instance shiitake with brown mushrooms, or pak choi with cabbage or even spinach. You won't get the exact taste but it can't be that bad.

Anyway for £4.99 you will still find a fair few recipes you like. Cute or not, good cook or not (to be honest I never saw the TV program), she definitely didn't put this book together alone. As a reminder, the RRP is £16.99... Definitely hot for me!

One very good point to the Book People there, perfect service! My books arrived in a mashed cardboard envelope and were damaged. I reported it to them and 2 days later the replacement books were here. Five star service!

No need to talk about your girlfriend like that or do you mean Ching? :?

Anyway my idea of Chinese food made easy is going down to the local Chinese chippy!
