Heat from me based on prices at the moment, though with the game being a little way still I'd personally be waiting as a better price is quite likely to come along before release - and prices could well drop fairly soon after release.

It's still looking like shaping up to be a great game, though, so thanks for sharing this! :)

Can't wait for it! Don't wanna pay £27 though ^_^

It would HAVE to activate on Steam to even concider this really.

Somebody asked Amazon the question:-

Q: Does this game require Steam?
A: It most likely will require steam to activate.

Most likey isnt really yes, but hey its a pre-order so it can always be cancelled.

Download Alpha Centauri instead. A classic and probably a better game!

Civilization is the crack of the PC Gaming world.

The OP is peddling crack at a discounted price.

2k games love the early price drop.

Considering that game franchise history it should be good but I'm holding off from the hype train. Still gets heat considering. Although the price should drop usually very soon after release.

^ this!, oh man the hours days and weeks I spent hammering these games they're so addictive.. cheers op I've ordered a copy any idea on UK release date yet is it October 24th worldwide release?

Nice pre-order price, but I don't dare bite. I spend way too much time playing Civ 5 as it is!!!!

I'm just glad it's coming out at after summer so I don't feel guilty spending all day in the house playing it :p

I hope the issue regarding certain graphics cards overheating due to the game engine not having an upper frame rate limit has been resolved. Couldn't play the last Civ because of this.

With Firaxis/2K I think Steamworks is practically guaranteed.

Surely v-sync with adaptive power management solves this issue?
A third party program could also limit the frame rate to 30/60.

I have no idea what your talking about :p

Here's a basic overview :D

V-sync locks your frame rate to the refresh rate of the screen (In most cases this is 60fps/60hz).
As a bonus It also stops tearing.

I prefer it off in FPS games though. It spoils my aim and I don't like the lag.

Cheers, will look into this. But maybe a bad idea as if I can get Civ 5 running I may loose my summer :p

Heat Added. Might have to do this!

Amazon normally do lowest price guarantee on pre-orders?
#16
cd key websites will have this for around £21-£25 around launch in fact kinguin already has for under £25.. so this is not a hot deal..
#17
Pre-order.
Cold.

I'm also skeptical about the game, but that's a topic for another thread.

How does a pre-order = cold? Is this not the cheapest price right now?
#20
Why the cold votes ?

It is the hottest deal at the moment, not what is available in the future.

Surely it should be a vote based on what the market offers right here n now.

That would be true if this were a price comparison site.

I voted hot, but I didn't do so automatically because it's the cheapest price. I did so because I thought it was a deal, which is something above and beyond that.

I suppose it's unfair to expect those who pre-order games to recognize the blatantly obvious.

You're not buying anything right now.

You're gambling that between now, and the release date(~October), it won't be cheaper elsewhere.
As such it's a bad gamble, and thus deserves a cold vote.

With Firaxis' track record from Civ 5, I'm surprised anyone is willing to buy what will undoubtedly be a bug-ridden imbalanced mess on Day 1.
Avoid the frustration & disappointment, and buy the game after the 1st major patch. You'll even save yourself a few quid too.

How is it such a bad gamble? You can easily cancel your pre-order if you see it cheaper elsewhere.

Your right your. It buying anything right now, and it's extremely easy to cancel the order with amazon so it's hardly a huge gamble.

No doubt there will be other cheaper deals that come up.

The track record of the developers or the potential bug fest is irrespective of the price deal.

Any places to pre order the digital version of this?
