As its gone up to 25.77 here I'd say no longer hot. Gameplay has it for 24.99 with 6% quidco. Amazon also at £24.99 with some free in game map, if you're more bothered about an in game map than quidco.

Grr... I see Game have put their price up too. I was going to use my reward points, what a hassle :(

Maybe I should stick to IV anyway considering the removal of religion and Leonard Nimoy...

Demo should be out around 3pm BST today, Steam is still doing pre-order (they have some map-pack on the standard edition too).

Not seen any negative reviews for Civ 5 yet.
Sounds to me like they've trimmed the tedious, and added some very interesting new features.

What did you think of the demo? It almost feels 'too' streamlined (dare I say dumbed down).
Though perhaps further play may reveal just how clunky the previous interface was X)

I'll probably buy it but I'm certainly not in any rush to make a day-one purchase anymore.

I want to play the demo just to see if I can run it. Is it hidden away on Steam or something? I know people love it but I can't really get on with it, it's like having to have iTunes for your ipod except it's worse because it won't let me play a game until the latest 600 meg update has been downloaded.

I love the demo - and yes, montblanc it's available through steam.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/8930/ (download demo button on the right)
Be warned it's quite a big download, though the servers were bloody quick last night - averaged 850KB/s!

The city states totally change the dynamic of the game, and can be very powerful early on in the game. (can't say what purpose they serve later, as demo is turn limited to 375 BC)

Overall I think the enhancements, simplifications, and changes to the interface & rules have been extremely well thought out - making a much more playable and richer gaming experience.

Has anybody's arrived yet?

I was expecting it to arrive today, so i'd have it in-time for the unlock @ midnight tonight - but nothing :(

It better arrive tomorrow! :|
My order doesn't say dispatched though, still 'processing' and has been ever since I placed the pre-order :S

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent order of Civilization V /PC.

Unfortunately due to a delivery issue that is out of our control, we have not been able to receive the games into our warehouse today.

They should be coming in tomorrow, which means that you will receive your game a day later then the release date.

With this situation we can suggest 2 options:

Option 1: Keep your order with us and receive your game a day late of the release date.

Option 2: Delete your order with us and purchase the downloadable version of Civilization V, by doing this you will also receive a free download of Civilization: Colonization.
Please click on this link for the downloadable game: http://www.coolshop.co.uk/catalog/product/3024458-sid-meiers-civilization-v-pre-order--for-download (£24.99)

This is the first time I have *ever* pre-ordered a game :(
Oh well, atleast Diablo 3 is pre-ordered from a reliable supplier (Tesco).
#20
Ooh, wish I knew they were doing it as a download for £25. I would have gone for that rather than sitting here waiting for the postman to not deliver my copy.

Didnt want to pay £30 via steam but £25 would have been okay.
#21
I was about to cancel my order, but it just got dispatched ><

I guess it might arrive tomorrow if they've sent it next-day RM...
#22
Don't worry, nobody's copy works! The forums are currently a bedlam
#23
Got hold of a pirate copy in the end, and....
Meh - obviously 2K games bought all the reviewers off, as this game in no way deserves the 90+% scores it's been getting. It's just broken plain & simple.

It's a bit of a joke really - the pirate distribution network succeeded where the publisher/supplier network failed, and it's a superior product too as it's DRM free.

I'm not going to return the pre-order (when it finally arrives...), as I hope Firaxis have enough riding on this game being a long-term success, that they'll eventually mould it into a respectable game.
However as it stands, it isn't worth playing.

Agressive AI plus proximity bonuses plus siege tactics plus puppet state mean that if you're not on the same island as most of the other tribes then you're going to encounter a super powerful megalomaniac and nobody else by the time you can sail the ocean. My current game is totally screwed after hours of work!
#25
Some nice improvements, the only thing I can see wrong is the dodgy AI. But was Civ AI ever any good?
#26
The AI was good to the point of cruelty in Civ 2 and 3. Don't know about 4, only played it once. I do appreciate how now a spearman can't defend a town from 3 tanks and a platoon because of insane fortification bonuses. That was so stupid you might as well taken out the combat altogether.

BUT, if you're playing Civ 5 single player, get used to massive disappointment when you win, it's nothing but a stupid picture and a text box just like when you get a world wonder....

Yeah, just completed it and that is rather disappointing. Could have at least given me a video of my rocket taking off.

I guess I need to start again on a harder difficulty level as that was to easy, but I cant seem to get overly excited about doing so yet.
#28
Is there any way to see your rocket or know what parts you've already got? There used to be a screen for it but now it just says that you've started the science route and has a bevelled blue circular button. I got completely lost and stuck and did a domination win instead.
#29
Yeah I couldn’t find a way to see how much of it I’d built either. It only seems to let you build what you still need so that helps a bit, but at one point I thought I must have finished but wasn’t sure, so had to check all my cities and eventually found the final part being built.
