Thanks for the heads-up. I find Clarks shoes are either of two extremes, with nothing in between. Their 'expensive' shoes (~£60 up) are well made, comfortable and very good value at their reduced 'sale' prices. their 'cheap' range (under £50) are complete and utter rubbish and equivalent to the cr*p you get from the likes of sports direct for around £5 to £10.

If you choose carefully, you can get a very good long-lasting buy, if you choose unwisely you will be overcharged for cheaply made, uncomfortable rubbish that will start to fall apart after a few weeks. There seem to be no 'in-between' shoes that are just ok....Clarks 'after sales service' non-existent in my experience.

I tend to agree to be honest andyken, some of the kids shoes from clarks i've had have been utter rubbish and are expensive. However i've had a couple of pairs that i got in the sale for work that were about £60 and they have been great :)

We got some shoes for our eldest (4) and the sole started to peal away from the upper around the edges after 8 months took them back - profuse apology and choice of any shoe in his current size (although they still fitted he had gone up half a size)

So if they fall apart take em back, we make a point of sticking the Clarks (or start-rite) receipt to the fridge every time now just in case.

Mind you just got a pair of shoes for our youngest 2 1/2 from the start-rite factory shop £13.50 and wellies £3.50 - get in

Must vary depending on the manager from branch to branch, Rich44. I bought a cheap pair from Clarks in Epsom (around £20) a couple of years ago thinking I had got a bargain, but turned out they were the really nasty ones with sort of hardboard in the sole, rather than a proper material. Horribly uncomfortable to wear for any length of time and started coming apart a bit at one of the seams after about a month.

Took them back, but manager insisted fair wear & tear/nothing wrong with them and all but told me to f**k off! Tried complaining to head office, but they just dismissed it as a branch matter and didn't want to know.

Swore I would never buy Clarks again after that, but recently bought a pair of 50% off Active Air shoes in their sale (reduced from £60 to £30) and they are simply terrific: very well made and supremely comfortable.

As said before, any Clarks shoes below £60 is not worth buying because most are just rubbish. Clarks always have sales but they never ever put their 'Clarks Original' or decent boots eg Desert boots on sale.

Its usually just discontinued lines that go on sale, the desert boots (i would imagine) are a continually good seller and therefore stay at a high price :)

Rich, the same thing happened to me with my little girl. They swapped them right over. Andyken - What a horrible experience, guy sounds like a right plank! X)
