  Can anyone tell me if these are completely airtight like they should be?
  These look like some that I have at home already which are no good for homemade jam or anything that you want to keep for a long time as there's a slight gap in the seal owing to the fact that the lid mechanism doesn't close tightly enough.
  If I got one of these I would fill it with water, then leave it upside down in the sink for a while and check whether any of the water leaks out.

  Not sure if these are the ones I looked at in asda last week, but in the small print on the label on the bottom it said something like "suitable for the storage of dry goods only". Not much use for chutney, so I put them back.
