Got one of these last time...well impressed.

thank you

I bought this last time too - just wanted to point out for others that it needs 2 USB ports to connect - my DVD player only has 1 USB slot so I have to plug the free cable into a USB mains adapter to get enough power to function.

Also, someone stated in a previous thread that this hard drive doesn't work with the PS3 but it does - you just need to format the drive to FAT32.

Hope this helps someone :)

Bought 2 already, now do I need a 3rd - eh yes!!!

I use it as a back up on a wii and one USB post is all that's needed, likewise my PC manages just on the one too.

Aah, that's interesting - I used it on my laptop, PS3 and DVD player and they all needed 2 connections, will try it on my PC too :)

Have this connected to Humax freeview box to record/pause progs etc. Excellent. Uses one usb on all my kit.
#9
i have one of these and used it on my netbook and laptop with one connector.

but my laptop / netbook have been plugged in to the mains at the time

is there something special about this - other than the price?

genuine question btw...

Nope, nothing special.
It's not even spectacular value on the GB per Pound stakes, but it *is* a very cheap USB drive, so if you don't need something huge this is a bargain.
#14
Worth buying if its big enough for you even just for back up,I had a 250gb(seagate) one fail yesterday luckily everything is backed up on another one.Only had the seagate about 6 weeks.

On that basis a USB flash drive is also not good value (about 75p a gb), 2.5in hard drives are poor value compared to 3.5in hard drives etc.

Its a size thing, if you want a small hard drive these are reasonable.
#16
Thanks. Ordered myself one of these just to travel around with.

I assume you mean £'s per Gb. Not everyone needs large capacity when used on gaming consoles or on Mac computers for evaluating operating systems, programs etc. Why pay for something that is not needed - false economy surely.
#18
Ordered - Thanks OP!

anyone know what version of DESLock+ is on these drives

the personal version is free anyway but does not really offer high levels of protection

Mine came with a single USB3-USB2 type cable thing and works perfectly in everything I've thrown at it, including my TV.

It comes formatted as NTFS so if you want to use it with a Mac you might want to reformat it. Also, mine was blank, but came with a code to use on a website for some encryption software but I seem to recall you only get 12 months for free, so I didn't bother.

These are excellent value for money, all things considered. You don't get the same £/gig as you would with a 1tb drive, but compared to the price of a flash drive they're excellent value and much faster.

i ordered one last time and ordered another two today - as im in process of putting all my invoice onto hdd instead of having loads of paper - these are prefect as dont want to take up space on my pc, i know people are moaning saying 80gb not that good value but if compared with an usn flash drive they are good value and small enough.

anyone know what type of hdd is inside ie sata or ide as got an laptop and was going to crack one open for the hdd

Does anyone know if this comes with a standard USB cable that I can replace or is it a non-standard connector or worse still, a permanently attached cable? Thanks.
#35
I bought one of these when they were last on at around this price. Brilliant product for the money.

Despite what some short-sighted people say on this site, you will very much struggle to find more GB per £ for less than 17 quid.

The people who say this is cold never seem to take into account the fact that £17 is around the top of certain people's budget. They always say, "the more you pay, the more GB you'll get per £." Yes, congratulations. Doesn't make this a hot deal.

Also, in every device I've used mine in, I've only needed to connect one cable rather than both.

It works superbly in my telly, I have to say. I've chucked loads of films on it, plugged it directly into my TV and it hides nicely on the TV's wall mount.
#36

OK thanks, that's good, looks like a standard mini USB connector. Very tempted now :)
#38
so it looks like some of these come with 2 usb connectors and some with just the 1 - can anyone confirm this is the case and its pot luck which you will get?
#39
Any speed benchmarks on these? (ie. MB/s)

These come with 2 USB connectors, I think the discussion is whether your PC / laptop will use one or both. I've only ever needed to use one of the USB connectors but some others on this thread need to use both to get adequate power. Hope this helps.
