For me it tastes better in glass, than a can.

Hot from me --Coke in glass bottles is the zenith of mans evolutionary taste party (in ones mouth)--and everyones invited .
#9
Coke in a bottle rocks , simple as that
#10
Voted hot again. Wasn't gonna vote hot for more expensive at £3 and it paid off
#11
anyone know if this is coke made in GB or NI?

(may sound daft but GB coke makes me sick, NI bottled coke doesnt!)

My Local ASDA doesn't have any glass coke bottles on the shelf where all the other Coke stuff is (Cans, bottles etc. Also Cherry Coke Cans)

Does anybody know if they keep them elsewhere? I can't be bothered to make a specific journey, ask, and they end up not having it.

(Yes. My local ASDA is actually that rubbish.)

why, cos i think that the only 'improvement' in taste you lot are on about is a psychological one?

it's not like i'm comparing coke with asda value cola.

There is actually a difference. Carbonated drinks in glass bottles lose less CO2 during storage than in thin plastic bottles and metal cans. This means that during production drinks stored in plastic or metal is normally carbonated to a level higher than that desired for consumption however this is not as drastic in glass bottled drinks. This is why they often taste better out of glass.

Cowkiller's just annoyed he can't taste the difference :p I also, prefer coke from a glass bottle. Psychological, it is not, sir.

Coke in a bottle is soo much nicer! cans seems average compared to it :)

Bottles DO taste better its not just psycho babble, in Mexico they make Coca Cola for glass bottles with Cane Sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup. Its also to do with the aluminium, the plastic also degrades ect but i wouldn't imagine it was that much of a problem. Heat and light is the biggest reason why drinks go rancid. Thats why beer comes in green or brown bottles usually some like Newcastle dont though.

BTW Diet Coke is based on New Coke not the original Coca Cola, its also worse off for you than regular stuff.

£2 for 6 is a good price because bottles are expensive.

But we're not in Mexico, they still put the corn syrup coke in the glass bottles here.

Coke in glass loses less CO2 and gets/remains colder than cans. Unfortunately it would be hard to do a blind taste test since you'd have to touch the glass rim.

Glass < Can < Plastic Bottle

PS - Glass is much worse for the environment, even if you recycle it, however.

Got me a few 6 packs last night in Asda. Does taste that little bit different in the bottle
#30
wow what a debate....this is why i love hotukdeals so much. at the end of it i'm left thinking *what is the deal again?*

Anyways.....£2 for glass bottles is great but last time this was out, it was only coke and not diet.

It does taste better out of a glass bottle rather than plastic, mostly i think this is due to chemical from the plastic effecting the taste of the coke, ps. glass is more environmentally friendly if the bottle is re used instead of being melted down, they do this abroad alot but not in this country very much.
#34
Couldn't find it at all in my local last night. :(
#35
Interesting info about the CO2 - I always assumed that the glass stayed cooler longer than the can (higher specific heat capability) and indeed cooled the drink as it pours through the neck. Same is true (imho) for beer.
#36
Interesting discussion about coke from a glass bottle here

Call me old fashioned but if i had a choice between beer in a plastic bottle or a glass bottle I would choose glass every time :p
#37
great find. heat added

No they don't. They use sugar from sugar beats as that is the most plentiful (ie cheapest) in this country. In the US they use HFCS for the same reason.

I have 2 theories on this:

1) Because the drink is served in a glass bottle as opposed to what we're normally used to (pump, glass, plastic bottle, can), there is a scientific reason for the difference in taste.

or...

2) It reminds us of our childhood when we went to Spain, etc.

Either way, I'm tempted to get a pack. It's 10.1p per 100ml, which isn't exactly a bargain in that respect (compared to cans and plastic bottles), but if you enjoy it more, you pay for the quality.
