Surely recycling glass isn't as big an issue as plastic?!

Hot deal! I pay nearly 4quid in saino's for this.

Much love.

oh it tastes so much better in glass out the fridge hmmmmm

and i saw they are better for the environment, you know with glass it gets 100% recycled, plastic is not the same if it even makes it to a plant

The glass bottles make me feel classy...

These work out at 33pence each, does it really taste so much better than paying for the can deals which work out at under 20pence a can?

It takes a lot of energy to produce the glass in the first place then lots more energy to recycle it (unless you directly re-use the same bottles which they don't in this country). Also glass Coke bottles each contain far more material than plastic ones simply because very thin glass is fragile.

I love glass bottles for coke, voted hot

I don't know what is more important, the lack of a plasticky taint, or whether glass retains the cold longer than plastic, but for me, coke from a glass bottle tastes much better, and is better for portion sizes, as pouring from a 2L bottle results in me having a much bigger measure

however, I do need to speak up and give a balance regarding the "environmental" side of plastic and glass bottles

the energy requirements of transportation and recycling glass bottles are very high, almost as high as when the bottle is initially created, as the glass is melted down and reblown

but plastic containers are much more of a blight on the environment, if dumped, plastic leeches a chemical cocktail, potentially getting into the groundwater and our drinking water, with significant health questions. Also there is a significant amount of waste plastic accumulating in the worlds oceans and seas, ie the sargasso sea and the pacific garbage patch. A problem that does not arise with glass

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sargasso_Sea

I personally would like to see a return to glass bottles which households can clean for themselves and refill at supermarket filling stations. would be cheaper for the consumer, environmentally friendly as only the syrup and CO2 would need to be shipped, and no need to return leg for the bottles

Just got my 6-pack delivered today (bang on the start of the 2-hour delivery slot, which I got free delivery for via a voucher) and it was the gold World Cup edition. Very exciting to see a gold bottle of Coke before for the first time ever!
