Although not quite as cheap as this (voted hot) you can get CocoOil at RealFoodSource at these prices (£8-9 per litre) for Organic cold Pressed Virgin all year round.

cheers OP

As long as you don't try cleaning your teeth with it like some idiots on YouTube.

Why not? When I had severe, debilitating toothache over several months and to the point that the dentist said nothing would make a difference except extraction, three days with coconut oil and the pain completely vanished. Incredible stuff.

One reason would be there's no evidence it has any significant benefits and is nowhere near as effective as brushing your teeth normally.

Coconut oil, which is almost pure saturated fat, cured the cause of the problem, got rid of excruciating pain over several months in just 3 days and defied the opinion and advice of a professional?

I'm not denying what you experienced just that it's not as simple as assuming the coconut oil was responsible for everything.

Everyone to their own. People have benefited using technique called oil pulling. Just because some corporate hasn't commissioned a scientific study costing millions it does not mean that the stuff does not work. I buy mine from coconutoiluk. Not cheap but the stuff works and tastes good.

Hi, I've never used coconut oil before and I'm just curious to know what most people use it for? Thanks.

Very good find!
Coconut oil is a main cooking ingredients in south India, particularly in Kerala state.
The Kerala cuisine produces some decent creamy, tasty mild curries.
Coconut oil is not only tasty for fabulous curries, but also healthy compared to other oils.

It's also fantastic for the skin. If you go to somewhere like Boots you will can the same product (100% virgin coconut oil) for baby skin at a much greater price.

This stuff has anti-microbial properties so is beneficial for anything Oral...great as moisturiser, make-up remover and cleanser (girls stuff) and Oil pulling is a centuries old remedy. Just not from this country.
Has a very high smoke point and keeps it's chemical bonds in cooking, unlike other oils. Is a source of medium-chain fatty acids which are quickly metabolised in the liver for energy production without any 'sugar spike'.

I'm all in favour of Science for it's wonderful discoveries but if you don't try stuff like this, and prove to yourself if it does or doesn't work, then you're just giving up your right to work out the individual health complaints that we all inherit through genetics or environment.

Make a flat-white at home by adding this and some butter to a coffee in a jar...shake it up baby....best creamy coffee ever! [this sentence is purely opinion and has not been vaerified by some corporation that has historically used the beauty and imagination of science and scientists as a tool to manipulate the sheep into buying their latest product]
Science is beautiful. Don't get it confused with Marketing!

I swear coconut oil helps cuts/grazes heal up quicker too.

And it's great for getting stubborn sticker mess off things - pop a bit of coconut oil on, leave for a few minutes, then wipe off with fairy liquid.

It does have benefits.
If you have tried it then you are qualified to knock it.

How the hell does that work? I mean, logically, using a brain? Just think about that statement again. Properly.

Never heard of this business of using it on teeth...

All I'd say is make sure you're brushing twice a day with proper toothpaste, alongside whatever else you're up to. Whatever you're doing with coconut oil might be beneficial (I don't know), but don't skip the basics!

I use coconut oil and MCT oil (search Google) on a Low Carb / Ketogenic Diet and have lost weight and feel great.
Again search Google /YouTube and aswell as Reddit has a big Keto community for loads of info on uses of coconut and how it works to help you lose weight etc

I agree that my experience is merely anecdotal, and everyone's mileage may vary - but I am in little doubt that it made the difference. For months I was in crazy pain which showed no signs of dissipating or waning - if anything it was getting worse. Brushing, flossing, antibacterial mouthwash, antibiotics... none had worked.

After one day with coconut oil (and no other changes to my routine) the pain reduced a little. By the second day, I could eat spicy food again. By the third day I was virtually back to normal. It's not a panacea, but it worked for me.

What a strange thing to post. It's perfectly fine to argue correlation does not equal causation, or that what I posted was anecdotal with limited reproducibility. But to accuse me of dishonesty for posting a genuine experience that happened just a few months ago? Bizarre.

I swish it round my mouth for 20 minutes first thing in the morning before brushing my teeth.

As far as I know it won't block pores, it's normal oil as far as that goes.
Better protection of skin if anything (maybe do some research if you have sensitive skin. but I get dermatitis and I use this no probs).
I've heard of using it as an anti-sunburn as well. Can't be any worse that sunscreens full of chemicals.

It has a tiny amount of UV protection, nothing like even the lowest SPF cream. It's fine if you fancy skin cancer. Some also contain oxybenzone and retinyl palminate, which could be bad for some skin.

Turns out there's been a rat study on this:
