What on earth do you use it for - don't remember this being in the shops when I was young ? Can't imagine it being in Arkwright's store either. :D

So many cuisines utilise coconut milk...not our bland UK cooking though!

I actually use this for many different dishes. Great stuff and hot price too.

It's delicious frozen then consumed like ice cream!!

Use it to make curries :)

Usually coconut milk can be bought for around 50p a can. This is nothing special.

Depends on the % of coconut, some are as low as 25%. Best to pick a brand that offers around 70% upwards.

Have you checked how much actual coconut is in those cans you refer to, how many additives, etc. Just read the ingredients and percentage of coconut in the cans in the asda link above and you will see that they vary widely.

I feel a home made rendang coming on. Worlds tastiest curry !! (perhaps not the one I make, but it is 'dang' tasty ;) )

You should always check the fat content of coconut milk per 100g...aiming for around 12 to 16g.

The cheap ones in Sainsbury are 7g and it's really mainly coconut water. Even Sainsbury own brand is around 12g from memory. It makes a BIG difference to the end product. Imo there's no point spending time making a great curry to then add a low fat coconut milk (unless you don't like it rich and creamy).

I didn't realise there were different qualities of coconut milk. So I've had a quick look at the tin.
It only has 8.4 g per 100ml,

Personally, it tasted fine in my Thai curry last night, however as people have said, better quality may be required for other uses.

At 50p per tin, I'm happy with it, but each to their own.

Lidl's coc milk is 84% coconut and always at 79p.

Quite often the cheaper ones will taste fine but will have much less coconut and fat content and therefore contain more unnatural ingredients such as stablisers and thickeners
