A firefighter (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is plunged into the complex and dangerous world of international terrorism after he loses his wife and child in a bombing. Frustrated by the government's stalled investigation and haunted by the thought that the man responsible for murdering his family might never be brought to justice, he takes matters into his own hands and tracks the bomber to Columbia.

Amazon.co.uk Review

Didn't the Arnold Schwarzenegger tough-guy role become outdated way back in the mid-90s? Aren't audiences tired of all this stuff by now? Collateral Damage would have you believe not. Within minutes we see the Austrian Oak in fire-fighter's uniform running to the rescue in cheesy slo-mo. Arnie's two-dimensional character seems a little archaic and so does the revenge-for-the-death-of-his-wife-and-child plot. Someone apparently thought that applying the politics of terrorism addressed in Proof of Life to the Arnie shootout genre was a good idea. Yet here even the Colombian bad guys' motivations seem muddled and hastily obscured under bullet-quick exposition. It's also no good trying to show the muscle man in a different light: so what if he mopes about with a tear in his eye for 20 minutes, we all know he's going to take the law into his hands soon enough. This he does with familiar gusto, of course. Fights and explosions ensue. Johns Leguizamo and Turturro provide comical cameos but add nothing more. The film's release was delayed so as not to offend anyone in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Who were they kidding? No-one ever took an Arnie movie seriously, least of all this one.

I cannot find the words to let people know how bad this film is.

He plays an all American hero fireman, trained with explosives (yeah explosives). His wife and kid gets killed in a bombing (surely there has to be more cliche's). They find out it was some gang in Columbia that did it. The FBI amongst others try to track them down but can't......whats that you hear? oh well that will be Arnie getting on a plane to go there himself. Yes thats right the government decide he can go there and risk his life taking on some Columbian cartel.

I honestly fell asleep a little after this. Having never fallen asleep during a film in my life I felt this was quite an achievement. Unsuprisingly I have never felt like I needed to find out what happens. I'm guessing he finds them, kills some, gets captured (possibly tortured) escapes then kills them all and possibly just as the US government come in at the last moment to help him mop up.

So why you might ask am I giving it heat? simply put its for the Paul Ross comment on the cover. That man would give 5 stars to the Abu-Ghraib videos and have some spin on it.
