If you haven't had the letter then they are not likely to give you the offer.

If you have had the letter you already know about the deal.

I hope this deal doesn't get slated but I'd like to thank you for reminding me to cancel my package for the summer

Idiot's guide to getting half price sky forever:

1) Phone and ask to cancel your sky tv. The operator will transfer you to Customer Retentions (the ones that are paid to keep you as a customer).

2) Keep it simple, whatever you do, do not ask them to reduce the cost of your sky package as it won't work, also don't threaten them will leaving if they don't give you a discount.

3) Tell the operator you want to cancel, they will confirm your details etc. The operator will then ask you if there is any specific reason you would like to cancel. Explain to them that you enjoy being with sky but that you got a really good offer in the post from Virgin Media offering you half price tv for 6 months.

4) The operator will then ask you if there is any other reason to which you would say no. The operator will then offer you 6 months half price sky to which you say thanks and end the call.

5) Just before your 6 months runs out phone them back and repeat the above (it doesn't matter if you have the existing offer, they just end it early and begin your 6 months half price again. I usually phone about a week before my offer ends.

THis will work 99% of the time but if the operator calls your bluff then go ahead with the cancellation. You have to give sky a month's notice that you are leaving them and within 2 weeks you will receive a letter from Sky literally begging you to stay and offering you 12 months half price. It's a win win situation

One of my friends is a Team Leader for Sky and it was he who gave me the info. I have been doing this for the past 3 years. I will never pay full price to Sky again. If you get a daft operator then all you have to do is hang up and call back to get someone else.

Anyone who pays full price for Sky tv needs their head examined. This also works if you need an engineer to come out. Anyone who pays for an engineer visit needs to be executed.

Agreed, but it will work where you have Virgin media coverage. If they know there is no other option for you, they will continue to charge.

Mention BT Vision, I did this as we didnt get Virgin in my area when I had SKY

Ok, just off the phone to Sky. I informed them I wanted to cancel my Sky World +HD package and explained that I would not need it over the summer and was offered half price until 8th November. I'm not in an area covered by Virgin so simply said I would likely get used to watching free channels.

Thanks again

Retentions open on a sunday? Im 11 1/2 months in, so based on a months notice need to cancel (if nothing else football season is coming to a close)...that alone is usually good enough reason to get any half price deals

I did this, they only give you 6 months half price off your TV bill, not everything, my mate works for sky as well.

I saved 20.00 per month off a 80.00 bill as I have everything with them, so 60.00 not too bad, better than 80.00, but again they will not give you half price off your entire bill, its just the TV.

If your friend works for Sky, why do you have to keep blagging it year on year? can't your friend give you a Sky "refer a friend" code and you then genuinely get the contract half-price, but for an entire year, not just 6 months?

And even then you only get it off your basic subscription, they won't knock anything off your HD sub or your multiroom.

I've had the same letter from them about 3 times since I left them recently. They're like an ex who doesn't get the message. "I've moved on, I've met someone else. A virgin, actually." - "Oh, but please come back to me, I love you."

Thanks for adding this Guide, it could be very useful indeed.

I'll propably try it out in a few weeks when the Football Season is over.

Cancelled Sky in favour of Freesat over a year ago. No regrets. I get letters now every month offering this exact deal.

Sky doesn't have iPlayer or ITV player built in (like Freesat boxes do) which is a big negative now for me seeing as I've experienced them.

Basic channels are in HD on Freesat so really, unless you're a big sport or movie fan, not much point to Sky now.

I also can't believe anyone pays for ALL the Sky channels ... I wouldn't find enough hours in the day to get value for money from it.

When my refer a friend 12 months half price, free HD, free install offer ended i rang up sky. First person i talked to i just told them i wanted to be put through to cancellations, i got instantly put through. From there on in i didn't say a word other then yes.. yes.. yes.. the bloke was trying SO hard to keep me, he instantly offered me half price sky world for six months but i would have to pay for HD, said fair enough noted the time i would need to ring again and hung up. In six months i will do the same again, i'm not in contract now so im more then willing to leave as has been said before you will get letters begging you to re-sign back up. All those people paying for full price are essentially paying for us to have half price all the time. :p

This offer drew me back anyway. Even just for the minimum package to use the recorder. I find it a very good recorder even compared to a Humax

My parents got a letter the other day offering half priced Sky for a year. When my mum phoned today the sky employee said that we'd have to pay £250 for a Sky+ HD box in order to get the half price offer. What an absolute joke.

Can anyone confirm if they've gotten a free box from this offer?

Thanks!
#19
The idea is you still have a box and dish from the previous contract. Seeing as there giving away HD boxes to existing customers for free there fobbing you off. Just haggle with them stating the offer and they should cave just mention the competition all the time.

He did mention this but told me you can't renew it every year whereas i can renew this every 6 months.
