This may sound good BUT it's actually an Athlon X2 3800+, which isn't a bad chip, but not in the same league as the Core Duo so don't be fooled by Comet folks. Many thanks to siliconbits for bringing it to our attention though

Ahhhhggg... Never though the day would come when someone would say that the X2 3800+ isnot as good as the competition... Come on... For that price, it ain't bad.

That is a good price, especially as it's free delivery. Don't worry, we all know that Core 2 Duo are out of this world, but this processor is an excellent processor and is true dual core so Comet are not trying to fool anyone.

I would like to see any person find the parts online get them delivered and build it themsleves with Windows Media Centre within this price. I bet you would even struggle to get it to £450 delivered if you bought the parts yourself.

Once upon a time building your own was far cheaper, now I am not so sure, maybe if your pushing to the £1k barrier for a top end system yes, but <£500 and we are currently coming across bargains like this one which just can't be beaten.

Great find to OP, rep given.

Yes, it's a great price for a proper dual core... £299 without the monitor as well. Okay, it's not up there in absolute terms with the Intel Core 2 Duo processors, but then it's cheaper! Raw processor power alone is not as critical in overall performance terms as it once was anyway... RAM, RAM speed, hard-drive cache, hard-drive rpm, bus speed etc etc are all important depending on what you're doing anyway.

Either way, it's a great system at a good price.

I bought one just 2 days ago. Fairly quiet, fan is quiet. Hard disk makes a lot of noise compared to what I'm used to, which is a shame.

A word of warning - may just be my machine but I've had to take it back to be sent away for repair as the PCI slots don't work. Also, there is no redemption form for the Vista upgrade and they only tell you you need one after you've wasted the £14.14 trying. It says instore that a Vista upgrade is available but Acer says it's not.
