My brother works in Comet and has told me to wait until boxing day if I wanted to buy anything as there will be big reductions on items in store (not online) and we will see heavy discounts on Plasma and LCD televisions.

If you have a Comet nearby and have nothing better to do on boxing day then it might be worth a look if you need that new TV ;)

Thanks for this and Welcome to HotUKDeals neo3998 :santa:

any xbox 360 deals in there ya reckon!?
#3
Thanks for the info, just one word of caution to everyone though, Comet are ridiculously over-priced on the their HDTVs so just because it says for example WAS £1000 NOW ONLY £700 doesnt necessarily mean you are getting a good deal as you will probably still find it cheaper elsewhere!!!
#4
Yup - find the TV you want online first then check if the sale price is cheaper :)

Thanks for the tip and welcome to hukd's neo3998 :santa:

I was in Comet yesterday for the first time in quite a while (collecting one of those weather stations) - the time it took, I had a look around and their TV stuff is well over-priced so any big reduction might just be a 'regular' reduction elsewhere..

As has been said, I'd defo check web-prices against anything I'd think was a good buy instore.
#7
I'd have to agree with Dave here, I went to Comet to check on the Samsung TV Freemans were offering with the discount, £1100 when I got it for £675 10months ago.

I suspect the vast majority of the reductions will be down to decent market prices.
#8
their online prices are pretty decent though.
#9
Yes over priced but this works for you because of their price promise which will remove 110% of the difference and if in the next 14 days (ie sale time) this promise still holds. So the bigger the difference the more they will discount!

Have you ever tried convincing them it's cheaper else where, it's not always as easy as it seems to prove it!!! :santa:

Was in Comet getting a few weather stations and was told from the sales guy that some of the items are going to be going cheap.

http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=324957

This is the one the guy was setting up and he reckons it is going to be going for £100.

He was only guessing though, but I will be going down on boxing day to see as it looks a nice piece of kit. He also said they had lots of them in stock, so it looks like this is going to be one of the sale items.

I tried to do this when buying a tv, i knew i could get it £200 cheaper from a store 50 miles away, they refused to honour, saying that the store is too far away, and that i would have to drive to the nearest comet store to where the cheaper tv was, and they MIGHT honour it there.
#13
I am looking for a good home cinema Billy , I will be at my local Comet tomorow. But it does seem very cheap.
Cheers Shug.

You could always get a price match from John Lewis - all their TV's have 5 year warranties. They'll continue to pricematch a month after you've purchased too
#15
Is the price match online, or is it shop to shop.
#16
Price match is shop to shop, John Lewis do match empiredirect who are predominantly internet sales, with a few retail outlets.
#17
Are they going to have a sale online? I'm after a Sony 50inch RPTV and currently they're only about 30quid more expensive than elsewhere.

Bump :santa:

Just been to this amazing sale, I couldn't believe the size of the queue:giggle: There wasn't one!!!!!

Inside the magical shop were lots of signs saying that they'll beat sale prices:w00t: Wouldn't it be better to just get on with your own sale!!!:viking:

I was in and out in less than 90 seconds.:x

Pcworld had a massive queue, people queued for miles for the amzing spec, top brand laptops at £199:giggle: They were putting the sold out sign out just 19 mins after opening and people were leaving with the higher priced Compaq laptops at £449. Good sales tactics.

Agree with bin man plenty of big red sign's, but no decent sale prices.

Comet are swines. I tried to get them toprice match something. They called 3 diffrerent Argos stores (All of which had it in stock at the much lower price). But because they used the interactive system, instead of speaking to a real person, they "couldn't verify" the price. Then they got heavy, and had the security guard "escort" me, when I said their price promise said they'd match a lower price.

I called their head office, and went back the next day, but the manager had limited the deal to one item (I wanted two of the same). And the staff hanging around by the door to "greet" the customers were all having a good whisper and snicker until I left with what I came for. But it has never felt like such a hollow victory.

Comet Gallows Corner. Avoid like the plague.

My local comet aswelll!!!! Yes they are a bunch of !"!!! in there. Useless custumer service. Even if you save £10-20 is it really worth it as you will get no custumer service what so ever. So you have to balance it up when you can buy from argos mayby a bit more expensive but any problems and they will have no problem at all.

Glad u won though hehe

This is why sales exist. To get you in and buy the normal priced stuff.

A mate of mine drove in to town to see what comet had today, despite me telling him he was mad. Hour and a half to get a parking spot and when I asked if there was owt his reply "fook all" :D
#26
Off topic, but can any one actaully view a product on the Comet website? Its very slow and an error message is displayed - they do have live help but I have lost the link.
#27
It flashes up on-screen, then disappears...
#28
They must be updating their website I think :santa:

My local retail park has Comet, Currys & PC World right next to each other....Comet is forsaken most of the time.
#30
Its been "offline" for around 3 hours - quite infuriating!
#31
ive tried allday just keep getting "Sorry we can't find the page you are looking for":x ...
#32
Spoke to their online chat people - IT problem and site is still down, they said to try again in an hour.
#33
thats so trully bund maar yaar! im going to start making my wish list now!

big up poodiyawa penchord madachord haramzadeh goreh lorg!
#34
^rofl

haha, that was a good laugh.
#35
It does work now. When the home page loads up, after a few seconds it does revert to the "Sorry the page your looking for is unavailable." However, if you click on one of the tabs within that page, say Home Entertainment, then you can view the items that they have for sale.

And has it been worth waiting all day for?.................................................................NO.

Absolute rubbish. A certain LCD TV that I was looking at before the sales is now £100 more!

In Simpson's comic book guy style....."Worse sale ever."
