Comet Clearance Auctions.

Just in case you are not aware, Comet have a good auction clearance website. I bought my Sony Vaio about 12 months ago from here for £500 less than the cheapest price anywhere!

They sell off all their returned, shop soiled, & sliightly damaged/scratched goods here. Any faults are clearly mentioned.

For instance a built in cooker that only has a tiny mark down the side (that you would not see anyway)

All goods come with full warranty, so if you are kitting your house/kitchen out this could bag you a good deal. Not sure if you can use vouchers Etc.

Most items start at a pound!

Sounds like a good source of kit - hot for me.

Thanks Sir Alan :)

Although you may grab a bargain, some of the items are overpriced and there is talk of shill bidding. Check prices before bidding.
#3
you can't use vouchers
I bought a washing machine from here , Great bargain it was too
#4
Watch out for postage costs sometime as much as £30.00
#5
My 1 item purchased was in a terrible state, best to ignore the description of "a slight scratch" and expect a 2nd hand right-off!

The people of tomorrow.

scary isnt it
#10
there is one of thier clearence centres in glasgow and although you can get a bargain most of the stuff in the clearence centres are ex display or customer returns
#11
My local Comet has a small clearance section at the front of the store. Last time I looked there the manager came over and said "make me an offer on anything there".

So if you like to haggle (no beards though ;-) )
#12
Sir Alan,

YOU'RE FIRED!
#13
Always thought, "refurbished" "Ex display" "customer returns" was just a synonym for "Second Hand"...... in which case 1/4 price is the order of the day!

According to that screen grab there were 21 bid now when I look at it they are down to 17 bids, so someone had taken some off and pushed the price down.

I've been looking at the comet auctions for ages...generally pretty poor prices, and not many bargains to be had.

I remember the best auctions used to be Compaq Auctions (before HP took them over and put all the auctions on ebay)....many years ago I got a brand new 19" CRT monitor worth about £200 for £60 delivered.

Which is why I took the screen shot !

I'm confident something is wrong with their bidding system which could be intentional or unintentional :)

I think this was one of the coldest:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=237035

But I think in relation the the original posters name, this would have been more appropriate (it did make -310 though)

I'm sure some of you will spot the connection!!!

I agree with most of the posts, I have not faired too badly, but will also tell ppl to be wary of descriptions. I bought a range cooker, yep got a good deal, saved about £350. Described as slight dent on the back but came with a broken door and big dent. When I rang helpline they just say they will take back. Did manage to haggle some refund and ended up with a good deal. Then bought a fridge which was described as small dent to front, After lots of phonecalls fridge written off. Full refund given but still had to go and buy one at full price from comet. Can pick up some good deals but be wary of the descriprion

I have just bought a miele washing machine for £250 used and / or returned ,should be £499 , so will see when it arrives , described as no damage and transit bolts in place , so we will see , but anything other than description and will be going back , due next friday so will post in due course .

just a note to the above , i had bid on 4 or 5 ex display ones before this and was always outbid , i have been a member of ebay since it began so know a thing or two about shill bidders and i strongly suspected this was going on , especially when you cant see finished items , the one i was looking before i bid , always seemed to finish on about £210 (5 or 6 machines ) but when i was involved the bidding it always crept up to over £300 .This may be a commision selling thing with comet clearance staff

Well...this thread is going down well isn't it!

I did have a cracking deal with them. It's OBVIOUSLY a case of right place right time.

Why people feel the need to slag it off is beyond me, either you spot a bargain, or you don't. No need to keep going on about it.
#36
This is a discussion forum - you have to take the good with the bad. If people have a bad experience it's as well to let others know of potential issues -just like those with apositive shoudl do so too.

Still i'd be gutted i must admit.

OOHHH! aren't you a clever little bunny.

Common sense (& the price you bid) dictates wether it's a bargain) IT'S SIMPLE REALLY!

How childish!

People are commenting on shill bidding etc to make people more aware of whats going on.

Must be one of the Comet Shill Bidders - there goes your commission :whistling:

BTW - don't be too easily offended by comments on this forum, in the end its just people trying to save money (or waste some time), not people trying to get as much REP (ie. EGO) as possible!

This site has been preent for years I think before 2000 - (before we bought our last washing machine) - after spending quite sometime studying the winning bids I too concluded that it was an absolute waste of time. I guess things haven't changed much.

I'm sure the occasional bargain can be had but I do get the feeling this is a rarity.
