I used to work for Comet. This clearance website must be making them a tonne of cash. They used to have to sell this stuff of in store for 50% off / 30% off. Now they are getting top prices.

Firstly people seem to be gripped by usual bidding frenzy (ie paying more than they would normally) and secondly if you win something, you've got to pay £30 ish to get is delivered. This means a lot of these 'bargains' go for more than you get on the net, often delivered free.

Be careful folks, I am sure there are some bargains now and again, but as with ebay - beware the finger on the mouse button!

I agree, is it really worth 'saving' £20 quid on something thats covered in dents? And that IS the margin you can expect on that site after postage.

The more well known this site gets the worse the deals are.

Stick to calling the store manager up about discontinued products you will get MUCH better deals.

I agree. Youve only got to look in the likes of Comet, Dixons etc stores and see ex display TVs etc with missing remotes etc, being sold for a £20 discount - and some people actually buy these secondhand goods!!!!!

Its a shame this link to this comet site has been posted. Just good publicity thats undeserved.

That's actually one way I got my LCD PC monitor (in store at Comet) - I believe it was half price due to being ex-display and a small problem with the stand part (just a loose screw that needed tightening....which reminds me, it still needs doing :w00t:), it still came with the 12 month warranty though

It works perfectly well however, so it's worth what I paid (especially since it was the last one anyway, and the next one up was about 3 times as much as I paid).

Half price is not too bad, but if you look on the 'bargains' table in PC World you're guaranteed to come away laughing:giggle: Obviously whoever considers that stuff a bargain doesn't have english as their first language...

I picked up an Xbox 360 cable that was on the 'bargains' table in PCworld. It had obviously been returned unwanted and was taped up, but with no price on. When I asked the price at the till it was the same as a new one off the shelf! :giggle:

I bought 1 thing from these Pirates in the past and it arrived in a terrible state, got a refund instore but they wouldn't refund the £7.95 postage so had to email head office etc and then they refunded.

All in all a crap service (but did get my money back and the knowledge never to use them again!)

Sounds about right, even the stuff WITH tags are pretty much the same as shelf prices PMSL.

I have purchased a washing machine, cooker and a upright freezer from the Comet Clearance site. All have been excellent and the dents or scratches are in places where you can't see them anyway.

The washing machine cost me £130 and about 10 months later it was at a special offer price of £199 in B&Q :-D

The key to a deal on this site is to fix your budget and stick to it. Some fools bid within the £20 and then forget that with delivery charges they actually end up paying more than the original price :giggle:

Well worth watching if you are not desparate to make a purchase and don't get carried away. Use PriceRunner , Kelkoo etc to make sure you are not bidding over the odds etc

I got a wired 360 pad for a tenner off there once, not a bad buy imo

Would you please tell me where i could have bought a new miele w1512 for £330 delivered??? nowhere else apart from comet clearance.... ok the packaging was tatty but the machine didnt have a scratch on it, and an extra bonus miele ok'd the free 5 year warranty!!

I have used it quite a few times and there are bargains to be had.

But you have to be set yourself clear limits and bid on days when it is likely to be quiet (cup final etc) otherwise the prices can be shockingly high!!!

My bad, I just realised it was actually Currys where I got my monitor.

You miss the point.

A washing machine which you save £50+ on but which comes with a slight scratch on the side washes clothes just as well as one which has no scratch. If the price you pay well beats the cheapest internet price then you save the money and you get a washing machine that still has the full warranty on it. If you appliance is under the worktop then you will never see the scratch. These are often damaged in transit so cannot be sold at full price or the buyer has rejected it on delivery because of the scratch etc. Display models are not worked to death, they are not normally plugged in.

How can you describe it as crap? They are not busted. If it is used then you don't have to buy.

When I last asked at Comet for a discount on the display model because they didn't have the drier that I wanted, I was told that they would have one delivered new and would not sell the display model under any circumstances.
