So apart from storing a limited amount of books, what do these do
Couldn't you use a cheap netbook rather than pay full price for one of these?

basically two advantages. 1. Reads like paper no eye strain. 2. Battery life is weeks not hours. (Well its dependant on page turns,) how much you read.

Advantages to being a girl, cheaper pink electronics.

Hi guys it's a bit over my head, but do u buy the "books" on line for this and how does it compare with paperback prices?? Secondly woyld a ds be cheaper as you can get 100 assorted books on a card, sorry to sound a bit dumn!
#13
Hot deal despite being pink

Secondly would a ds be cheaper as you can get 100 assorted books on a card, sorry to sound a bit dumn!

Unless you mostly want to play games, and only want to read as an additional bonus I would not get a DS as a reading device. The screen is not suited to reading and the selection of books will be incredibly limited.

Think LONG and HARD before buying one of these. We had a prs505 last year and the (legitimate) cost of ebooks is ridiculous. In most parts more expensive than the physical counterparts.

I sold the item as Waterstones (exclusive content provider) would not reason with a sensible discussion over prohibitory ebook pricing.

I would advise before you buy such an item, ensure you are either a: happy with the cost of the books or b: can source the books from alternate means. :whistling:

You may be very annoyed when each ebook is 5-15 quid ;)

http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/browse/ebooks/4294964587/

Compare an ebook there on a site such as bookprice24.co.uk and see the differences.
#16
but how moch are the books in comparison for the sony please?
#17
As usual these companies cant price things right, for the moment its just a pirates dream which is good because it will eventually drive the prices down on the ebooks.
#18
Bargain :-D One christmas present sorted, thanks op.
#19
just rang comet to order over the phone, the lady I spoke to used the discount code and somehow the final order price was £90 proper bargain!
#20
Hot from me. My daughter (an english undergrad - so does LOTS of reading) wants one for XMAS - now less than half price.
#21
amazing deal! I got mine a few weeks ago for (depressingly) nearly double this.... It is great though, the screen is amazing, I was blown away by how different it is to reading on a traditional lcd screen. Hot!
#22
Just been looking for a decent source of free books and found Feedbooks which offers a lot of out of copyright books for free.
#23
Out of stock in all 3 stores close to me in South London. Bit too good a price to turn down, so going to get one delivered instead.
#24
Great price for the device but there's two reasons I just can't justify buying one yet:

1) The price of ebooks is ridiculous. Usually they're about the same cost as RETAIL price for the equivalent printed version which is unjustifiable in my book. Bring them down to... let's say the same price bands as most iPhone games, a couple of quid for most, a fiver at the outside and it'll take off.

2) Libraries should be embracing these wholesale. At the moment there's a grand total of FOUR libraries in the UK and Ireland offering ebooks and two of those are in Dublin. Why? Get the majority of libraries using this system on a sensible basis with regards loan periods and availability and this becoms a must-have device.
#25
The screen is way to small, I reckon it would be a pita to read your average ebook. IMHO the screen should be the size of a paper back.
#26
I had a play with one in the Sony Centre yesterday and I found the screen and device size to be about right for me. The display is fantastic, very crisp.

Ordered mine online, getting it delivered on the 16th. Happy Christmas to me, from me :)
#27
Very good price, now could they kindly charge the same for the silver one?
#28
Just ordered but then got a call saying they had no stock and didn't know when they'd be getting any more :( ******
#29
decisions, decisions, decisions.........................
#30
I sooooooooo want one...

I have a questions... how does it handle colour pdfs with images? Anyone know?
#31
I have just checked with Comet and they have no Stock for home delivery. There are none available in Hampshire at stores for collection. Most stores only had a couple anyway so you will be very lucky to pick one up at this price. Shame because i think alot of people were waiting for these to go sub £100.
#32
Spent over an hour ordering mine, it kept saying problems with my card, no idea why....ended up using a debit card in the end. Due to be delivered 15th Dec, hope it turns up. Finally spent my Mother's Day and Birthday money from children ;-)
#33
For those saying to get a DS or a netbook are completely missing the point.

This is a brilliant price, BUT it's a shame it's in pink. What's with women and pink electronics???
#34
sodd it

reserved one for collection tonight.

couldn't give a flying fig that it's in pink - i'm comfortable with my sexuality and i'll be comfier still with some of the old-time classics or some great downloaded new sci-fi from aspiring young authors.

mumbo - i'd heat and rep you but i already have

Completely agree. Couldn't car about the colour and most of the good leather cases cover most of it up anyway.

Edinburgh is now out of stock for collection. I reserved one in Edinburgh which I don't need, as I've picked up from another store now. I'd be happy to give the reservation number to someone who missed out on the proviso that they really, really do want it and they're not being speculative or looking to make a buck on ebay. :)

PM me if interested.

EDIT: Too late, sorry.
#38
How do publishers get away with charging the same price for an e-version of a book, as they do for a printed copy? Once you've finished with a book, you can't give it away to be read by someone else. Best avoided at any price.
#39
Just got back from collecting one from poole, the colour is not horrid pink, verging on purple I would say.

Screen is nice and clear for black & white text but very poor for graphics, wish it was a little bigger but still can't grumble at the price.

Thank you very much, heat and rep left.

Ordered, lets hope get it in time for Chrimbo :-)
