Gets a best buy from Which although the price is nothing special.

£39.99 seems to be the standard price for this - Amazon & PC World have it for this price - the only advantage is the discount

inks are too expensive

I thought that but bought it anyway last year...and I'm very pleased to say the ink refill packs work a treat...not sure how many times they will stand re-filling before the chip is worn but I'm guessing if treated with care during the process it could be quite some time.
What I did note was that the set-up was considerably easier than say with an Epson....pretty well foolproof I would say.

EDIT: I've just looked at mine and it's the C not the F...not sure what the difference is apart from mine is two-tone grey

I have an old Canon and a black + colour compatible cartridge pair cost £3.29 and work perfectly.
#6
Ordered :) Reviews are very good on this. Many thanks :)
#7
seems worth it even only for the scanner. But it does take up space.
#8
I have the wireless mobile version that's rechargeable. Good purchase.

Can this act as a wireless print server, i.e. connected to a router to service my two PCs or does it need to be connected to a switched on PC?

The printer will connect to an existing wireless network and be accessible by any computers on that network.

So yes, it will service your 2 PCs without needing to be connected directly to them ... you'll just need to install the printer on each and point it at it's network name/IP address, which I'm sure is all documented in the box :)

HP original Inks are mega expensive. The compatible ink prints very poor quality. I ended up selling my 120 pounds HP printer for 20 quid on gumtree. It took 3 weeks to sell it because people are scared of buying super expensive ink again.

So avoid HP at all cost. Buy Brother or Epson coz their compatible inks are cheap as chips and they work like original ink.

Cheap printers are never a good idea, just about the only piece of computing hardware you don't skimp on!
Cheaper printers = more expensive ink, it's as simple as that! That is how the companies make their money.

I bought an Epson SX515W (wireless all in one) a couple of weeks ago from Marshall Ward for £70 delivered using codes. This week I had 3 sets of ink delivered for a mere £6.99, that's 12 cartridges. You cannot go wrong with Epson.

Excellent price, bought mine some time ago @ Amazon for £41 and it's working excellent for print, scan & copy, is also more compact than other brands printers. Inks are expensive but that's the case with ink printers since ever. This thread's not about price of ink but of a printer.

The cost of ink has be taken into account

Having had a HP laptop that had a faulty motherboard that needed a recall, then a faulty printer which needed 9 revisions to the released driver before it solved the problem with corrupting the windows registry, I have sworn never to buy anything from HP again. Be warned- their customer care is the worst I've ever experienced.
#19
As a printer its a good deal BUT as the inks are soo damn expensive the price of the printer does not matter it negates any bargain price, yes i know all about CISS and compatable cartridges thats not the point.

Voted cold

Save ink costs - do your printing at work when the bos is at lunch

Needed a new printer to replace an ageing and decrepit 970cxi and a separate scanner, so this does the job nicely. They've got stacks of them at Comet - if you choose collect from shop (and take e-mail proof) you'll get the reduced price of £35.99

Interesting that Wilko's are selling the inferior F2480 for £39 and calling that a bargain - good job this deal came up on here otherwise I'd have probably got that.

Took an age for the software to be set up on XP (including a restart midway through the process), but it's a tidy little printer and a massive improvement on my 970cxi.

has 2 carts, 1 black and 1 colour and both are less than a tenner each on amazon/play which is a lot less than pc world, currys etc and thats for original HP ones.
#23
I don't get why people like cheap printer. HP can even give the printer away for free considering the profit they are making from selling ink alone.

Good deal. Speaking of printers, can anyone advise on a mono laser printer which you can refill the toners of please?

click and collect not working...boo!

Does anyone know how to reset these printers so the ink levels show 100%?

Remove both black and color cartridges from your printer. Turn the printer on and off 5 times. In between the on and off allow twenty seconds for the machine to power down completely. When turning the printer on allow it to go through normal start up so that it realizes there are no cartridges.

3rd printer I've ever had, got it with 'order and collect' yesterday , 1st two I had were Epsons, both broke so lost all confidence in them , this is great as it's worth £35 for the scanner alone and is also wireless , great scanning and printing qualities so far

just picked one up...
i'm not sure i need one actually doh!

Beware!

It seems that the wireless operation does not apply to the scanning function. It needs to be attached via the USB lead.

A pity really. I need a new scanner and, with space being tight, I liked the idea of being able to place the scanner away from the PC.

Got one today and just tried to set it up. Wont work on any of my computers. Looks like I got a faulty one.

Not true. Must be in the new drivers or something cos I just scanned something via wireless and I haven't even managed to get it connected via usb yet.

It does actually say on the machine itself (the buttons) - 'SCAN - USB ONLY' which I checked out yesterday.

I was going from a comment in review.

If what you are saying is true then this is a bonus, given that in order to save a scan you would have to get into into a computer, there being no usb or card slots.

Is this a definite ' yes you can scan wirelessly' ?

Do you have a url for these?, as usually the cheapers cartridges only have 9mm of ink in them (they're like the original low capacity ones supplied with the printer)

This has come up every time this printer is on offer anywhere. YOU CAN scan wirelessly but you have to use the HP Solution Center software to perform wireless scanning. It's mentions this in the manual. Read it online Page 2 ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01859552.pdf )

Thanks OP, Bought one for my Sisters birthday.

As said this is the only way to can scan wirelessly! It works fine for me.

As in another post if your wireless router doesn't have a WiFi protected setup (WPS) you WILL have to connect it via USB to set up the wireless connection yourself.

If you're having problems installing on Windows 7, you'll need the latest drivers from HP. Current version is 14.1.0.
