A good deal and therefore hot however should note you would be much better off getting an IPS panel. You won't notice 2ms v 5-8ms but you will certainly notice picture quality! Well worth to do research and get a really nice monitor.

Is this true? Because I've narrowed my search down to this IPS Acer monitor, and this.

Which one should I go for?
It really is a case of personal preference. Consider when watching movies and playing the PS4 will you be sat straight on or off to an angle? IPS will give better viewing angles if you've got a group of mates huddled round it. You're unlikely to notice much difference between 2ms and 6ms unless you're coming from a 2ms display. The same goes for IPS vs TN. The only people who nerdgasm over the improved colour reproduction are those upgrading from a knackered 10 year old TN. That being said, once you're used to using an IPS display, returning to a TN will be a noticeable downgrade in image quality.

You'll no doubt be happy with either and given this one is now out of stock??? Also for what it's worth decided mine is going back as back light bleed aside it has failed to impress me on either colour reproduction or build quality. Gonna continue the wait for a deal on a Dell U2414H.

Awful back light bleed on mine :( Gotta wait 2-4 weeks for a replacement now grrr.

JustAnotherDade
Would this be okay for gaming, or should I go for the Acer G246HLBBID for £17 more? It has a slightly bigger screen and 2ms response time, but is TN panel.
If all you're doing is gaming then the fast TN panel always makes sense. The fact you're asking and only spending £120 on your monitor means you're probably not enough of a hardcore gamer to be able to tell the difference without having the screen side by side however. You also didn't mention the benefits of IPS being a consideration? in which case that sounds like your decision is made for you.

Just to make it even harder for you. If you're after a budget gaming screen then you'll struggle to beat the Asus VE247H http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-VE247H-Widescreen-Intelligence-Technology/dp/B004T2LMP2 There is also a slightly cheaper BenQ lots of people rate. I forget the exact model (GL2460HM???), sorry.

I'm not really a hardcore gamer, I will be using the monitor with my laptop for general use and watching movies, but I'll also have it hooked up to a ps3 for gaming. On that basis, would the 6ms response time be enough for me? It seems to me as if this monitor would be the best value for my usage.

What would be more beneficial, the better display of the IPS panel or the quicker response time of the TN panel?

Cheers.

This trick will not work to HUKD members.
People in HUKD will just see the final price that they need to pay.
£5.38 for 8GB memory stick is a regular price not a bargain....

Cancelled here too, I don't understand why they have to lie, why not just admit it was a price error.

Actually, it seems only the German seller sent me a proper apology, comf_tech haven't. Just got a generic email from amazon saying the seller cancelled my order.

Pros and cons to everything. Better to just list them out because there is no right and wrong just choice. This being a don't want my GPU to sweat it 1080P screen more suited to entertainment use than work is fine but I would always do research before making a monitor purchase. Some place like TFT central or Prada.de
I had a high res 22" with a 16:10 ratio... I now have this monitor and see it as a massive improvement.

It's 16:9 ratio and with windows 8 snap view it easily allows me two browsers side by side for much faster multitasking. Also you don't need to sit as close to the monitor with a larger screen! I have a huge partner desk and whereas the old monitor was placed in the middle, this one is placed at the back. I'll upload a photo next week if I get chance.

Higher res would equal smaller text etc by default so you would indeed be more inclined to sit close.

Another point worth making is that it's IPS so brighter and much more vivid than most monitors... This makes this fantastic for gaming photographers (eg me).

Granted it's not for everyone but I love it and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better panel for the money.
I have a 21" monitor with 1920x1080. Why would I want a 27" monitor with the same res? You need to go to Specsavers Silver,.
What you call resolution snobbism is another person's basic desire for quality and performance.

27" 1080p for a computer monitor is a very low pixel density. Things will be big but the details will not be there. Don't forget that you sit much closer to a monitor than a tv.

This is fine if all you do with this monitor is watch movies, play low resolution console games (720p) or medium resolution pc games (1080p) but not great if you are looking for more demanding usage than that.
@uklee1969 will check later

I see the resolution snobs have arrived ;)

Poor read and write speeds, in comparison my SanDisk Extreme that I bought 6 month ago (which I just tested) is 192 MB/s read, 118 MB/s write which are the type of speeds you would expect from a decent USB3 flash drive.

If you want a decent USB2 drive then go for this, if you want USB3 I wouldn't bother.

Excellent price and fast speeds.

NOT fast. Not for USB 3.0.
Very slow, for USB 3.0, barely faster than good quality USB 2 drives. I sent mine back. Bad buy.

Shuttles are good computers (or used to be before mATX, and to a lesser extent mini-ITX, became so mainstream) but I would never want to use anything Atom-powered for my daily PC.
I like shuttles, I have one myself but this isn’t really a good deal when you can get an Acer Revo L80 fully built without an os for only £20 more on ebuyer.

You have a very big problem with your laptop then mate, seriously

Well yes it need a re-install it's over two years old but the point is the desktop still does everything I need it to do. Mainly use it for image and video recording editing. I admit I'm in no hurry so cutting 20% of the time it takes makes no sense at the cost of £100s.

Given that this was designed in 2010 as reviewed here:

http://www.techradar.com/reviews/gaming/gaming-accessories/vogels-twistdock-917727/review

I'm not entirely convinced it really is for all PS3 designs. And I have a feeling this is why it is being sold off.
I thought about one of these for my original phat PS3 and you don't get the 90 degree power cable for this model, just the newer slim models, which means either sourcing your own from somewhere or have a clunky fat cable sticking out of side. Not so svelte and pretty then...

Wouldnt buy one of these for a new build, youll get about 20fps from most recent games with this - however it is a good price for the item, so heat added

At 1920x1200 with everything on absolute maximum and 4x AA maybe but under those settings you're looking for a £200 to get good results anyway. Now that it's come down in price a little this isn't bad value, although the £100-120 cards will give you more for you money.

That's crap. Kingston cards tend to have higher performances than they state but reliability isn't an issue. Sandisk have really good power management and it makes them better for use in mobile devices and mp3 players like the Sansa Clip or Zip.

You should base your choices on that.
