I'd be astounded if I saw it at that price. Wonder if that applies nationwide, fantastic if so.

HOT game, great price. Its like buying 12 brand new games, the expansion packs itself is like a whole new game!

I contacted my old manager at GAME (Gavin) and he say the system shows it is currently on offer at £19.99. Are you certain it was this version at £9.99?
#6
these are exactly the same games as the originals except that they have all been put onto a dvd disc and made compatible with windows xp! They are all amazing games, although there's no guarantee that the servers are / will be available to play them online! :)
#7
Do the earlier games still work over Serial link with two PC's

You sure it wasn't for Red Alert 2, Command & Conquer or one of those ones?
#9
This pack isnt very good by all accounts.

Some games don't run, others have multiplayer ripped out, Red Alert doesn't play the entire set of Soviet movies, some crash when you walk too close to the northern edge of the map, some have inexplicable dll errors on startup.
and EA knew about all these bugs and classed them as "Shippable".

I can confirm generals works online and zero hour

yes i am very sure, it was the full package.

i wanted the zero hour game, so i could play a lan game with my son.

and that was for £4.99 for genreals and zero hour, so i just got that one, as i did not need the other games, as i already have them all :)

you need two games disks to play lan games now, as it checks the serial number :(

so, yes i am sure it was £9.99 (no to sure on game mind you, it was the first pc game shop, lower floor, yellow end, just past the o2, phones4u cross roads)

They've barely been made compatable and bear in mind you'll need to patch it as the retail has several amusing bugs like half the video in Red Alert not working.

Just spotted this, some although not all were eventually patched.

It's slightly astonishing that if you run the original CD release of C+C1 in XP with "95 compatabilty mode" engaged it actually works better than this version does.

The games - well worth the money, there is a lot of gameplay here and they are still fun after all this time!

The installation issues - hmmm, this is probably aimed at the more 'serious' gamer anyway so patching/compatability mode and general fudging stuff shouldnt be too much of an issue..

IMHO - generals (install the add-on!) is well worth a blast and kept me quiet for ages when it 1st came out (i still play the odd game now)

Voted hot :)

Generals is an abortion.

I think you mean "aberration" :giggle:
Or did you mean to say "its abhorrent"?

I bought Generals Deluxe some time ago but havent got round to playing it yet.

An appropriate thread to tell you - the demo for C&C3:Tiberium Wars is out.

Some download links here: (Be warned, its 1.2gb!)

Some of the earlier games don't work on TFT/LCD monitors also, seems rather a rushed job in just lumping everything onto one dvd.

If it's just a tenner it's worth that alone for Generals + Zero Hour, plus I'd think RA2&YR should work fine as well as the originals have no issue with XP. As for the older games, although I enjoyed them a lot when I was younger I would say they're more for novelty value now. Having said that, I think the original C&C would be ideal for the DS...

You can set windows xp to run in Windows 95 mode which makes it compatible to older games anyhow

Compatibility mode rarely works.

Not sure about the rest, but I can confirm it works with the 1st C&C

It didn't for me - but I'm running a TFT so maybe that's why.

I find that rarely works, I couldn't get Tiberian Dawn or Red Alert working in XP using it.

i play red aleart on xp!

there is a patch available to play red alert in windows xp

the original release won't work with just compatibility mode

this new release is supposedly patched to work under winxp

The original Red Alert (not TFD version) works perfectly on my PC in compatibility mode.

I've been unsure about whether to order this or not. Too many people have been unable to get the older games to work...I only need a few of the older games.
#32
if you just want a few of the older games, you can get them for a couple of quid off ebay. as long as you are prepared to put in a bit of effort finding the patch / using compatibility mode then you should be able to get it to work and that will be much cheaper.
#33
Mr Biscuits loves these games but I am getting confused by all the technical stuff above!!!! We have windows XP - can you please advise me (without getting to in-depth as my poor brain will explode) if this will work ok with our computer? (Cos I'll definately buy it if so) Thanks!!!

it is supposed to, yet.

basically some of the older games came out before windows xp so there were compatibility issues and they wouldn't run under winxp.

so the games were improved and re-released so that they would all work under windows xp.

however there are reports of other bugs in this new release, so you will probably have to download patches to ensure that it works ok.
#35
Thanks Mark - have some rep mwah x

The games weren't improved when they put into the TFD collection at all, if anything they were made worse due to lots of new bugs appearing. Lots of the owners of the TFD are hoping a third patch is released to fix the numerous remaining bugs.

It's usually hard to find Aftermath and Counterstrike even on eBay.

I used to own the PS1 version of them (C&C: Retaliation)...not sure what happened to it. I only want the PC versions atm; my TV is and has been shite since late 2005. :-(
#37
just had a quick look on ebay, and theres plenty of aftermath and counterstrike for under £5ish.
#38
Checked in game after reading about it being £9.99 - none in either Portsmouth store, just incase anyone was going to head down there.

I should have had a look before posting. There was near to none of them on eBay when I finished replaying Red Alert a few months back, and I kept checking every few days.

Do you know if they work used? The registration code will have already been used by the previous owner.

This should bring back some memorys:
