The processor is part of the tigris platform released recently rated at 2.2Ghz on 45nm process. http://www.amd.com/us/products/notebook/platforms/home/next-gen/Pages/platform-next-gen-notebooks.aspx
This processor also supports virtualization technology for windows 7 http://products.amd.com/en-us/NotebookCPUDetail.aspx?id=580&f1=&f2=&f3=&f4=&f5=&f6=&f7=&f8=&f9=

Yes, currently out of stock at Play so must be pre-order only.
Is this a good deal? It's only £10 less than RRP

Why is this a good deal? You can get a Dell Inspiron 15 with Intel T3000 1.8GHz dual core processor (similar performance to AMD Turion 2.2GHz), 4GB of ram, Windows 7 64-bit, 320GB hard drive delivered for £389 or £349 with 3GB of ram and 250GB hard drive.

first of all all waht is the battery life odf that? secondly this is the amd turion 2 brand new cpu released recently and not the old turion processors, hence it would easily beat a 1.8ghz celeron dual core installed on the dell. It would also be helpful if you give the evalue code of the laptops you are referring to.
The £349 dell is this one i think N0054510 http://search.euro.dell.com/searchcom_redirect.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&k=N0054510&tdc=1&cd=1&cat=prod&sfp=RecLink&dtype=RecLinkPattern&did=0&redp=http%3a%2f%2fconfigure.euro.dell.com%2fdellstore%2fconfig.aspx%3fc%3duk%26cs%3dukdhs1%26l%3den%26kc%3d%26oc%3dN0054510&redpe=f8609588-1ee9-0012-f81c-29c9097a69bb so for £349 you are buying a much slower processor, less hard drive space, 4 cell battery, intel graphics although the nvidia 8200 is also integraded the nvidia 8200 is better. Considering its a 4 cell i reckon the battery life would around 2 hrs on the dell, compared to 6 hours on the Compaq as stated by Amazon.

After upgrading the ram and hard drive you still have an inferior celeron cpu and less battery life. Although im not sure how you managed to get £389 with a 4gb ram and 320gb hard drive. hmm only £5 to upgade the dell battery to 6 cell but it does not state how long the battery life would be.

Firstly the Intel T3000 is the same performance as this new Turion M500 - refer to the performance benchmarks here (98th and 99th positions) - so the Celeron is not inferior as you stated and will have the same or better battery life for the same sized battery:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html

The £389 model was listed on the website at the time of the posting - I didn't make a note of the e-value code - sorry - it was similar to this one but it had Windows 7:

the dell has a 4 cell battery, non upgradeable. Different laptop models with 6 cell battery will have various levels of battery life due to the spec of the laptop.
i tend to use notebookcheck to compare processors myself but i donth think its very accurate. The main reason i think this is a good deal is the 6 hr battery life which is really good for a laptop if the battery life was about 3hrs then i would not have submitted this deal.

This Inspiron 15 comes with faster T4300 2.1GHz cpu, HD4330 graphics card, 2GB ram, 250GB HDD, Windows 7 and 6 cell battery for £399:

as i said before what guarantee do you have the dells 6 cell will reach 6 hrs.
here is a review of a dell inspiron 15 with a different spec
" Battery

The 6-cell 56WHr Li-Ion battery provides good battery life for the Inspiron 15. Even under normal usage with the screen brightness all the way up, Vista set to “high performance”, and wireless on I managed to get 2 hours 53 minutes of battery life out of the 6-cell. If you had the 9-cell battery you might expect up to four hours — under conservative usage this could be 5 hours on the 9-cell. Thanks to the integrated graphics the Inspiron 15 is good on battery life." http://www.studentbuyingguide.com/2008/09/dell-inspiron-15-review/

Where does the specification for the Compaq state "6 hours battery life" - I have checked the specifications in your link and there is actually no mention of battery life. All the reviews I've seen comparing laptops identical apart from an AMD or Intel processor show that the AMD processors have significantly shorter battery life - I'm sure this is improved with the latest 45nm Turion but it is unlikely to be signifcantly better than a lower clocked 45nm Penryn processor. I also noticed the price is £429 on Play and it is out of stock anyway.

Pre order deals are allowed on the forum and should not be expired but i will leave it as that since the deal has gone cold. If you look on notebookcheck the processor also has the same TDP, 35w. "6 Cell Battery up to 6 Hours Life" http://www.amazon.co.uk/CQ61-330SA-15-6-inch-Notebook-Windows-Processor/dp/tech-data/B002P8M9UO/ref=de_a_smtd "
play.com increased the price by a tenner so i will just leave it as expitred.
