Cheap and cheerful - ideal for office related work and internet browsing! :D

I'd rather spend £139 with Big Pockets for HP Compaq NC6120 Centrino 1.86Ghz, the Celeron 900 is comparable to a low end P3, the idea of that running Win7 isn't filling me with happy thoughts. Granted you'd have to spend a few quid to upgrade the RAM and HD but it'd be a better machine for less money.

While I'd agree the Celeron 900 is a low end CPU, it certainly is not comparable to a low end P3... that is just plain wrong. It's a single core version based on Core2duo CPU architecture and while it is a somewhat performance crippled cpu, it is pretty good for everyday basic tasks. The same CPU architecture is used for many current (but not all) Celeron, Pentium and Core2duo CPU's albeit a much lower specced one.

Benchmarks here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron+900+%40+2.20GHz show how it compares to other processors and unless I'm very mistaken, there's no P3's in that list... .and I think I see that Pentium M 1.86Ghz centrino below this C900 in the benchmarks :D but to be fair benchmarks don't cover all aspects of a CPU's abilities.

I recently setup a Compaq laptop with this same hardware and reasonably pleased with the performance...... sure it would take a while to do some processor intensive tasks but everyday web use was fine as was iPlayer and other such things.

OK for a budget notebook, however I have been offered a refurbed one of these for £100 http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?nav=227&product=SOLV329&title=IBM+Lenovo+ThinkPad+X61S+-+Core+2+Duo+1.4Ghz+-+2Gb+-+40GB+-+WIFI+-+XP+Pro

But am thinking that I'm better off going for an Atom Based NB instead for £30 more or so...

Is this ThinkPad any good? Any advice gratefully received.... :) Thanks.

You're kidding right? The Pentium-M 750 processor in that HP model is over 6 year old technology. The Celeron 900 in this model is only 2 year old tech and will a much better system in general (certainly capable of running Windows 7 with ease)

Furthermore that Big Pockets site is full of overpriced systems from yesteryear, I'd avoid at all cost.
