Frequent netbook posts get boring (as the 8.9" models are purged from inventory)

Posting this because it is :-

Windows XP
10.2" screen
Compaq ( cough*HP*cough)
Webcam AND Bluetooth
Free delivery (If you wait 5 working days)

Hard drive is a bit small , but it stops folks from hoarding data on a mobile device IMHO.

It is ebuyer ( no quidco) , I admit but I (personally) have never had any problems
more than 167 in stock

ps- found this great quote from February about this device

Sorry... but I just can't understand why anyone would want a Netbook this large (10.2'') add to that the price, just totally defeats the object IMO.

Not bad, like the nc10 but with a smaller HDD, poorer battery and probably not multi touch? £100 cheaper though!

bought this for my wife as a back up computer; missed out on Acer netbook deal as out stock. Anway this looks fine not that I no much about such matters and the screen is bigger; will mainly be used for surfing, storing pics etc; can someone please advise if I have made a good choice

Cheers

You made a good solid choice. The premiere notebook is the nc10- but obviously around £100 mor. For the money, youve done well

Now torn between this and the Dell Mini 9.

Dell Mini = cheaper, with silent SSD drive, better battery & built in 3G moden
Compaq = bigger screen, bigger HDD & looks nicer IMHO.
#13
only thing putting me off this is no video out of any kind that I can see from the spec, can anyone confirm my findings

might be wrong, is that a hdmi output on the side?
#14
i believe we have one of these in the office and there is no inbuilt VGA output.

Apparantly you can get some kind of output cable but i have been told up to a 12 week wait!!!

all the manuals are are here.

It appears to be a proprietary adaptor on left side for expansion , but no obvious VGA. DVI or HDMI ( or that new DRMed high bandwidth interface)

Its got a hp dock connector on the side so if hp releases a docking station you could attach it to an external monitor so this review says on youtube...

No built-in 3G or it would be bought big time.:-(

Yes, everything works except the inbuilt mic. There are also occasional battery warning dialogs that pop up and then dissapear.

I got a Mini-9 and returned it for this. The 9's keyboard was too small for me and the larger screen on the Compaq makes a difference (same resolution). The webcam on the 9 is better though and so is the battery life. The 9's stock SSD seemed slow.

how is this any better than an Acer one with 120GB hard drive for £150? is it just build quality?

If you are on a tight budget and can install windows your self = ACER

If you want a nicer bigger screen , keyboard , legit XP and bluetooth = Compaq

Fifty bucks is a lot - if purely for email and web then there is nothing wrong Acer , to be honest

Thanks I have ordered one. It said 20 left in stock when I clicked to pay.

I have been looking for one for a while now and this seems very reasonable. Can't wait!!! haven't had a laptop for a LOOONG time due to coffee spillage.
#23
Does anyone know how soon they might confirm acceptance of my order? I only have an acknowledgement at the mo. :o
#24
wow fantastic price seeing as its still £270 in most places
i really like these. especially the button by the trackpad to disable it whilst typing
shame ive already got a dell mini9 with built in 3G

I ordered like night around 11pm via PayPal and ive just received confirmation that the £ have been taken.

Still showing 167 on the site LoL, a little slow @ updating me thinks
#26
My sister has ordered one today, being delivered Monday. Been searching for 2 months to find what was the best option for my niece's birthday. We decided we were going to choose one and buy it this weekend, and when this deal came up last night, it all slotted into place. Many thanks OP. Heat and rep added. :)
#27
I personally would choose NC10 even though its abt 100 quid extra purely for the 6 cell battery. Being a mobile device, I think battery time is very important.
#28
If anyone wants a vga cable the correct wording is...

HP Mini VGA cable

BUT they seem to be out of stock @ most places or OTT price wise @ the places that do have them.

I like the look of this model, however didn't like the thought of being stuck with 1GB RAM as not upgradable :x

Replacing the ram...

http://myhpmini.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=292

It will support 2 GB. Microsoft only allows these machines to be sold with 1 GB ram or less in order to run the special XP license that the OEM's use. So HP/Compaq says that the max is 1 GB, but really you are good with 2.

This deal had me in a bit of a pickle for a bit, as I had just recieved my acer a150 from ebuyer when this came up and thought it was too good a deal on a 10" netbook to turn down, especially as my main reservation when ordering my aao was whether the screen would be large enough.
Thankfully a family member was after an aao so can give that to them, and use this when it arrives and my life has returned to normal.

But does anyone else find that this site as opposed to saving you money, in fact makes you spend lots more on things you dont necessarily need?????

Thanks to the op for the deal +heat +rep

I was going to go with the Acer but this looks a way better deal for my needs.
#38
dont be fooled by stock levels indicated on ebuyer site; could well be very close to sold out so if you are going to buy I would asap

Dont go for the dell its keyboard is so so small especially around the right shift key!!, the acer i love everything ive chucked at it works and great keyboard but strange mouse, but to say that my full size lappy 6735s 's mouse is a complete nightmare. Some superb OS'a coming out too, take a look at jolicloud and moblin (intel os)
