Not a bad laptop, but the Sempron is terrible :(

The AMD Sempron is not as bad as you guys make out, infact itsa very capable processor. its very good in a laptop due to its low power consumption for its performance. even with its 512k of L2 cache it will match the Intel Celeron and even beat it in some benchmarks due to its quanti-speed architecture (this is what gives it the Sempron mult tasking performance mimicking a duel core CPU something the Celeron cant do) . this makes it a great budget CPU and ideal in a laptop especially for the budget conscious. add to it the dedicated GPU and you have a loptop that can run all of vista`s features at a decent Index rating for not much money.

come on guys stop being silly and knocking the laptop for a CPU just because it does not have the latest and greatest CPU afterall laptops especially at this price are all about getting useability and sometimes at this price the latest tech has to be sacrificed but this laptop has useability in spades and will even run a few (older) games along the way.

its good for budgets http://www.picturehoster.org/storage/4.jpg

Not bad for a basic laptop from a well known manufacturer, however the graphics memory is shared with the system resources so you might want to consider upgrading the ram at some point (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01637956&lc=en&dlc=&cc=us&product=3888979&lang= shows this as being able to take 4gb but you have to buy 2 x 2gb sticks as it has both slots taken up with 1gb sticks when you get it) if you wanted to play some games with it.

Don't get sucked in my some cleverly worded nonsense!!!

However capable this laptop / CPU is, it's *not* dual core:

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Mobile%20Sempron%20SI-42%20-%20SMSI42SAM12GG.html

Just to be clear: not knocking the CPU or the deal...only highlighting the marketing bow-locks.

Brilliant find! Does anyone know the speed of the WiFi though?

I've benchmarked mine at up to 23 furlongs per fortnight.

Out of curiosity, how does it compare to a cleron dual core / celeron mobile? Lots of the "cheaper computers" between 279 - 329 are coming with these processors. Which is the best one

My mum wants a laptop. Is a complete novice, but wants an entry level laptop. Just for the internet really, nothing else to fancy. she will only break it otherwise.

Would this be good for that? Or any better deals around?
#14
Would be perfect for her.

> 2GB Memory makes multitasking easy allowing you to use more than one application at
> a time without it effecting the speed.

Oh, I would love a Windows laptop that could actually meet that criteria....

I think this is the same laptop bought direct from the HP store....

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329742-89318-89318-3837670-3879587.html

Use discount code from the HP website for 10% off or Quidco code 'HPQUIDCO' for the same 10%.

Works out cheaper at £315 this way and an extra 3% Quidco on top - worth over £9

Bought this on for my Mum and it's spot on.....just over £305 with the QuidCo - she's well happy

As far as I can tell from a quick spot of googling (and looking at the product specs linked to on the HP site), this laptop does not have a dedicated graphics chip.

As for the deal, if you only want to spend £330 on a laptop, this allows you to just that.

Mate you just dressed up some complete ********, there, quantispeed architecture doesn't = more performance, its mereley saying it can use differnt cpu frequencies depending upon the load placed on the processor it doesnt make it faster in anyway, just slightly more effecient .
Vista's index rating is a complete joke, according to my vista rating my RAM is bottle necking my system... (2.4ghz t8300 2GB pc5300 8700GT 160GB 7200RPM drive) If I upgraded any of those peripherals I'd see a much larger performance jump than just upgrading the RAM
The dedicated GPU is the weakest on offer, but I wont knock it for the price range, it will still manage to knock out COD5 at low resolutions.

I though you were trolling initially, but you never know around this place.

P.s. celeron > this sempron in every benchmark

P.s. celeron > this sempron in every benchmark

Do you have a link to any of these benchmarks please? I can't seem to find any.

You "TECH NERDS" do make me laugh with your "NO THIS ONES BETTER THAN THAT ONE", "I WOULDN'T TOUCH THAT ONE", "MINES IS BIGGER THAN YOURS" BLAH BLAH BLAH.
It wouldn't be so bad if you were trying to help someone instead of trying to prove how much you know about computers or how somebody else doesn't know..
Just taken me about 10 mins to write this, but yes I do feel much better for it.
Cheers

The celerons in the price bracket of this laptop are single core aren't they ? I'm looking at the celeron 550 and 585 in particular.

I'm looking for a bargain laptop so if there is a dual core in this sort of price range then cool, else, this one looks to be as good as anything else in the same price range (that I can find).
